Total Time = 1h 12m 37s
Overall Rank = 23/134
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/15
Pre-race routine:

Packed night before, up early for bagel with PB and banana, easy ride over (against the wind)
Event warmup:

Swam a couple hundred, focused on swimming shallow.
Swim
  • 08m 26s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Guy in front of me swam away, which is good. Came up on one guy. As I got to him, he was passing a dude BACKSTROKING. Passed between the two of them (since nobody was close behind).

Passed another guy who I tapped and he let me pass at the wall.
What would you do differently?:

Could have done more training this year, but it works at the margins. Shaving would be 20 second bonus, probably.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 37m 38s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.13 mile/hr
Comments:

As usual, bike was a weakness. Though not as much as usual. Did better training. Of course, could always do more (or get a new bike, but that's unlikely)
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 23m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Normally I do much better in the run, compared to my AG. Just good runners this year? Maybe I didn't push myself hard enough in the first half. May need to do more bricks next year so I have a better idea what my pace should be in a tri, not just standalone.
Post race
Event comments:

Nice day. Did well without killing myself, though maybe I should have pushed harder on the run. Too steady, perhaps?

Either way, kept it together for a good AG finish, and not much I could do to change the results either way.

Barely sweaty, since it was cool and windy.

That's my watch time. Chip time (8:54) included at least some running. Right at what I expected to swim, based on training.

18.5 mph based on my computer (but it also said 17.8 miles, so...)
Wind: Strong
Course: Wind made the difference today. Just hard to make up what it takes away, and since it was from the north -- most has been south during training -- just a bit different. Passed a few folks, but only got passed once or twice by people actually on my lap.
