Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 430. Had a bagel with peanut butter and took a quick hot shower. Didn't have to worry about packing up the bike because we were able to drop them off the day before which made the morning much less stressful.
Event warmup:

No warm up desides a getting in a few swimming strokes after the full iron distance started.
Swim
  • 37m 31s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first race in my full wetsuit so I was pretty excited to get to use it. The swim went well besides the shallow water the first half. About 200 meters into the swim everbody had to get up and walk becuase it the water was about 2 feet deep. Other than that the crowd spread out pretty quickly. Kept moving a little too far over to the right so that may have increased my time a bit but I was very happy with my overall time.

Transition 1

Comments:

No issues...took my time and made sure I had everything. Wetsuit strippers were pretty awesome as well.
Bike
  • 2h 43m 49s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.51 mile/hr
Comments:

Weather was perfect when I jumped on my bike. This was really just a warm up for Ironman Florida so I wanted to try to keep my pace around Ironman pace. I nailed my nutrition and hydration and kept my HR down where it needed to be. The course was great besides a couple miles that were on pretty rough roads. The volunteers were all great on the course.

Transition 2
  • 03m 59s
Comments:

Took it pretty slow to make sure I was ready for the half mary. Also stopped to pee in one of the porto's in the transition area.
Run
  • 1h 57m 19s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

It was a pretty nice 2 loop run course. Water stations every mile. Took it very easy the first half as I wanted to make sure I would finish feeling good. Again nailed the nutrition and hydration...may have drank a tad too much as I had to stop and use the bathroom 2 more times during the run. Paced at exactly 1 hr for the first half and legs felt fresh as they did at the start of the day. So I turned it up the second half and ended up running negative splits. I finished feeling great and even was able to break 5:30.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and got a massage at the massage tent

Event comments:

Great overall race. I would really recommend it to somebody looking for a half iron distance race late in the season. If your looking for a full though I'm not sure about it. The full had to do 4 loops on both the bike and run. But I had a great time.
