Run
Comments: mile 1 10:30, as expected mile 3 27:45, 9.15 was hoping for faster but forgot about the 1 mile uphill mile 7 1:02, 8:51 feeling great long downhill mile 10 1:33, 9.18 lost some ground here mile 13 9:18 kept it steady in last 3! I felt really strong this whole run and felt like I had lots of endurance. I stayed focused on my goal of about 10% below VO2max. Didn't breathe too hard and moderate sweat. I did walk for 10 sec breaks at rest stations, plus whenever I felt my HR go up. The only thing holding me back was my legs started to seize up in the last 3 miles, weird aches around ankles, calves, thighs. I had to walk like 5 times the last 3 miles, twice in last mile. I was hoping to break 2 hours, but still this is a PR by 4 minutes, so I can't complain! As for breaking 2 hours, but there's always next year. And, I'm now in top fourth of my AG and top 1/3 of all runners vs. being in the middle of the pack last time. What would you do differently?: Run more in the 2 months preceeding this event. I really didn't put in any training so got bad blisters (no calluses left) and am super sore. I figured I was trained for it since I did the HIM, but the Half was my only run longer than 9 miles (in August). I should've done at least 2-3 longer runs between August and October! Moral: don't rest on my laurels. Post race
Warm down: remember to bring a sweatshirt in the car! It got cold after I cooled down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not training for the event. Event comments: Loved it. Nice to have live music at finish--thanks to Joe. I didn't stick around long but it was good. Last updated: 2010-09-27 12:00 AM
