Pre-race routine:

Stayed in Brunswick the night before. Up at 5 am to eat breakfast. Oatmeal with peanut butter and coffee. Drove over to race around 7 am. Had a peanut butter and banana sandwich around 8 am. Race start 9 am.
Event warmup:

Put on the wetsuit and went for a 15 minute light swim.
Swim
  • 29m 37s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall I was really happy with my swim. My goal all summer was to break the 30 minute mark.

Only real complaint about the swim was it would have been nice to have a couple more markers along the way. The three buoys your turned at were huge but far apart. I basically followed the crowd and hoped I was going the right direction at each turn since you could not see the next marker.

It did not bother me at all but this was by far the roughest swim I have ever had. Lots of pushing, elbowing, and overall just jack ass swimming by some.
What would you do differently?:

Practice spotting distance more.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

I was happy with how fast I was able to get my wetsuit off. In previous races I had struggled with this.
What would you do differently?:

Keep practicing.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 43s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Best bike course! Very scenic. The race site tells you it is a hilly challenging course and they do not lie. No real problems on the bike. Was able to get into a good rhythm and cruise through most of it.
What would you do differently?:

get more comfortable on the run so I can push it a little harder on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

The guy next to me racked his bike in my spot so I had to move his bike!
What would you do differently?:

Keep practicing
Run
  • 55m 1s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Really happy with my run time. I worked all winter and spring on getting faster. I was able to bring my average mile down from 10:34 to 8:52.

Run course is up hill for the first 1 then down to 1.5 (approx) then rolling to 2 mi mark. From 2 to 4 mostly flat with a couple small rollers. 4 to 5.5 rolling with a couple large hills. then a nice down hill to the final little up hill finish.
What would you do differently?:

get to the track and keep working at it.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around and stretch

Event comments:

I was able to beat all my time goals in each sport. I really ran the best race I possible could have. It was a great way to end the season.

Hopefully I am able to build on this for next year. Keep working on the run time.
