Pre-race routine:

No real routine. Got up and ate PB on a single piece of bread and had a cup of coffee. Loaded up and headed out.
Event warmup:

No real warm-up. Didn't realize there would be so many road closures a half hour prior to start. Couldn't figure out how to get to parking with the road closures so parked somewhere else and trotted to the corrals. Got there 5 minutes before race time so that was the warmup.

Comments:

Felt like I made good decisions on pace and effort and strategy throughout the race. I had to change strategy when I started with a high heartrate and it became obvious that I couldn't use it as teh main tool to determine how to race. Shut off the alerts after the first mile and went to pace per mile and RPE to determine effort and pacing. Met my goal range and time for the race (1:45 - 1:55). Was shot by the end of the race so felt like I couldn't have done much better if at all!
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Was the best first half marathon I think I could have done. In getting to the race, could have left a little earlier to try to figure out the parking and see if my HR would settle in but I think that it was high due to first HM anxiousness.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, rehydrated, got in some stretching and grabbed a banana and some breakfast tacos. Looked around at the booths and then jumped a bus back to the starting point.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Trained well for the race. About as good as I could have done coming off an Oly and then jumping into a HM training regimen. I had some issues early on with tendonitis so if I could have avoided that, I could have gotten in more long runs earlier.

Event comments:

Good race. I had a great time. Course was fun and felt good after finishing. Only issue I had was not knowing about road closures but it turns out the race had a link to the city for road closures. Didn't seem obvious to me (I missed it). Might be a good idea for them to put something in the Race Day section for next year to check this link.

Course: Course was mostly downhill and fast. Was slight downhill with some steeper sections. There was some uphill, mostly in the first 4 miles but then another good uphill at mile 9 and 10. Then slight downhill to finish. Good control and monitoring by police and volunteers. No traffic issues - for the runners. There was some intermittent drizzle that made sections of the course slick for running, especially the stripes, tar patches and smoother asphalt.
