Pre-race routine:

Usual of Gatorade Endurance, Cheerios, and banana.
Event warmup:

10 minute bike ride and 10 minute jog with some pickup strides. Light stretching.
Run
  • 21m
  • 3 miles
  • 07m  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good on this run. Went out pretty fast with lead group at about 6:00/min pace but then decided it would probably be agood idea to slow down a bit :) Finished strong.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe pushed a little harder on last mile because I was worried about being completely drained for bike.
Transition 1
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Good trasition compared to my previous races. Had a good spot right by bike mount so didn't have to run far.
Bike
  • 45m 30s
  • 14 miles
  • 18.46 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Pushed the windy portions of course hard and recovered and drank fluids with tailwind. Should have pushed that portion harder. I passed alot of people in windy part but let the group ahead of me get too far away. Could have gained another 2-3 positions for run.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

Felt like a pro coming into T2 with my dismount. Went perfect.
What would you do differently?:

Might have dismounted with bike speed a little too fast. If I was going a littel more faster probably would have spilled but it was ok.
Run
  • 22m 30s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

felt sluggish on 1st mile and was fighting off some calf cramps. Slowed pace a bit and then got 2nd wind after 1st mile. Picked it up again and was around 7:00/mile. At turn around realized I had 3 guys on my butt so pushed second half a little harder. Heard the footsteps close in on last 1/2 mile as they were trying to pass me but I gutted it out and beat them. FELT GREAT! Haven't really raced like that in a while . This year was more about finishing the races and this one I raced the whole way.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching - drank some water - ate some apples and bananas and waited at finish for my buddy Mark to finish. This was his first race! I suckered him into this addicting sport - haha

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Should have drank some more Gatorade Endurance right before event. I was really sweating and was losing sodium. Could taste it on my lips. Think That was why I almost cramped on Run #2.

Event comments:

Good race- will do it next year. Wish they would get official results up faster. Maybe next year they can do chip time.

Wind: Strong with gusts
Course: Wind was BRUTAL on first half. 20 mph with 30-40 MPH gusts. They were tough but the Branson 70.3 hills made them seem like nothing-haha I was passing people like crazy for first 4-5 miles then caught up a group that I hung with for remainder of race. As I was turning a corner on Mile 10 a volunteer yelled "you are 15th overall" which shocked the hell out of me plus I was in the 2nd start wave so some people had 3 minute lead on me.
