Pre-race routine:

Got up about 5:30 and ate breakfast (2 pieces of peanut butter toast, bowl of instant oatmeal, 3 glasses of water). Double checked my gear and left for the race about 6:00. More water and a cup of coffee on route. Got a little lost looking for the parking garage, but the Detroit police were helping people find their way. Got my chip and mingled for a little while.
Event warmup:

Couple minutes of light running, followed by some stretching, followed by some harder running. Went back inside to stay warm before the race start. Did some more stretching when I went back outside

Comments:

Not sure what happend the first three miles. At that pace (if the mileage was accurate) the heart rate should have been high Z2 (about 154). Tried to pick up the pace in the next two miles (really wanted to break sixty minutes). Did not have much left in the last mile, and really bonked hard in the last 200 meters (three people got around me in the last 200m).

There was not nearly enough water on the course. They had a station at mile two, but they had two kids running back and forth between the table and the runners, if you wanted water you had to wait. I decided to wait until the second loop to get some water. When I got back, they were out.

What would you do differently?:

Go out a little harder; but it was hard to judge how fast I was going since there were no mile markers.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and cheered on some of the other runners. Made my way back to the building for some refreshments. By the time I got back, they were out of coffee (wanted something hot to drink because I was getting cold again) and bannanas. Had a couple of bagels and some water while I waited for the results.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. Need a bigger running base and need to start incorporating some speedwork into my training. Its rarely that windy where I live, so its hard to prepare for.

Event comments:

Kind of frustrated by this race. It started late, there was not enough water on the course, there were not enough mile markers, and nobody had any idea how long the course actually was. Its for a great cause, so I might consider doing it again next year.
