Swim
Comments: Bay swim. Usually bay is like a bathtub. Today it had whitecaps! With the current on the way out and pretty much against it on the way back. Very tough the last 200 yds. Swallowed tons of water, chop was overhead and when I went to breathe or sight, I just got facefulls of water. GOt clotheslined by 2 bouy lines b/c bouys were being blown around so much. Everyone was all over the place - I almost collided head on w/ some of the faster guys on their way back while I was going out. The longer course swimmers had to swim 2 loops of this so I was grateful for just doing the 1/4 mile swim! What would you do differently?: Nothing really, choppy swim but on the bright side, there were no jelllies, no crab sightings and it was warmer than I had expected. I guess I could've tried to time my breaths better towards the end when it was really choppy... Transition 1
Comments: Used Pam and it worked well :) What would you do differently?: Remember to take off rash guard before going out on bike! Bike
Comments: For a 10 mile FLAT course I avg'd less than 18 and was 6th fastest OA. That says a bit abot the wind!! Good lord I have never had such a constant gale blowing! Got to turnaround in just under 20' and was able to fly back on some of the back when we had a direct tail wind. Most of the time it was cross/tail wind. With about 1/2 mile left, the crosswind was so strong I almost tipped. Crazy!! What would you do differently?: Not sure. I don't have a lot of practice riding in windy conditions. I wanted to use my small chainring at one point! Tried to keep my cadence up on the way out but I don't have the bike fitness this year to really push hard. Kept telling myself it's only 5 miles to turnaround!! Transition 2
Comments: Slower T2, kept shoes on when I got off bike b/c too wobbly for me to try and take them off while on bike. Had to take off rashguard ;) Run
Comments: Legs were toasted from bike. Tried to go out uncomfortable and sustain that. Good thing was no girls passed me and I actually passed a few people from earlier waves. That hardly ever happens! Post race
Warm down: Got warmed up and tried to find the least windy part of the park. There was no least windy part. Hung out w/ friends, waited for awards. Definitely knew I had made top 10 F but not sure where. To give u an idea of how windy it was, there was a seagull flapping its wings trying to fly into the wind but it wasn't going anywhere. It got down and walked instead. Found out my friend who did the longer course race for his A race of the season got hit by a car on the bike!!! Thankfully he's OK but totally, totally bummed about his race and such. Felt so badly for him. Bike's more of a mess than he is. What limited your ability to perform faster: WIND! Bike fitness. Event comments: Fun race vibe - great atmoshpere. Lots of familiar faces. Well organized considering the RD had to change the swim course 2x before the start due to the windy conditions! Got myself a cool hoodie for 1st oa female. :) Last updated: 2010-10-01 12:00 AM

poptart/coffee. Drove 20 mins. to start w/ friends - husband was racing, wife was spectating w/ 1 yr. old son. My husband was back at beach house w/ the 3 little girlies. The wind seemed to be HOWLING all night. Got to race site and had difficulty opening car door due to the flippin wind!
Jumped up and down to stay warm. Felt oddly like a penguin huddling in the middle of everyone else trying to get away from ever present wind. 20-25MPH steady w/ gusts...
