![]() Run
Comments: I worked hard to keep a slow early pace and did okay; settling out at about 5 miles to run my race. With 28k participants, it was very crowded, but not terrible. My plan was to dring at about every 3-4 miles and walk through the drink stations. I think this worked pretty well and will likely use this strategy again; ensures I'm better hydrated. Overall I ran a fairly steady race, a little too strong at the beginning (but better) and finished the last mile strong. What would you do differently?: I used a 3-day training plan to train, speed, tempo, and long run. After a few weeks, I finally realized that the long speed intervals were causing me to heel-strike and causing pain behind my right knee. I did not train in week 8 (peak week) in order to make this go away. It did help, but I lost the advantage of my final peak week before the race. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Jog/walk, stretch, compression tights. Ate banana & bagel with lots of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Missing the peak week of 10-week program. Event comments: While it was more than I've previously paid for a 1/2, it's Disney, so you know they're going to do a great job. I did get my money's worth. I'm sure I'll do this again. Drove to Kissimmee on Thurs & Friday. Up @ 3:30am for 5:40 scheduled start, ate bagel, bottle of water and coffee.
Met Kori Swiggum (her 1st 1/2) and went through the very crowded area to the corrals together. There were 8 corrals; seeting on an earn-in basis based on previous 1/2 times. I was in corral A, along with about 3,500 of my closest friends (est nearly 28k started). did limited warm-up, given the length of the race (jogging, stretching).
