Pre-race routine:

Drove to the race early and was one of the first parked cars. I was concerned about getting there on time since there are over 5000 people in this race. Took the bus to the packet pickup and then took the bus back to the car to drop off the t-shirt (I wasn't expecting them to give out the t-shirt before the start). Then took the bus back to the start again and still had enough time to wait around.
Event warmup:

Tried to keep loose by stretching.

Comments:

Challenging run. It definitely would have been helpful to scout out this course ahead of time. Not only did it seem like it was all up or down all the time, but it was also extremely up or extremely down all the time (no rolling hills, just climbs and super fast descents). One goal was to run the entire race (no walking) and I managed to do that. Beyond that, most of the rest of the race was just trying to hang on. The downhills went really fast and the uphills seemed to go on forever. I really try to keep an even pace when I run and it was close to impossible for me here. I'd say I was hitting 7 to 8 minute paces on the downhills and 11 to 12 minute paces on the uphills for an overall average of a little under 10 minutes per mile. Funny thing about it is that there was probably no point in the race where I was actually running at a 9 to 10 minute per mile pace.
What would you do differently?:

This was my first time running this course. If I run it again, I will have a better idea of what to expect around the next turn.
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the finish and walked over to the post-race celebration. They do a really great job of having tons of refreshments out for everyone. I rehydrated and ate some snacks. Got a free massage since there was a tent with a very short line (I usually don't like waiting around on lines after races). Relaxed and enjoyed the warm day for a few minutes and then headed back to the parking lot on the bus.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was a hot day. The water stations could have been better stocked, clearly marked and located at more logical positions.

Event comments:

Nice race on a nice day. I don't think the organizers expected it to be a hot day. The water stations were pretty overwhelmed (but put up a valiant effort). The course is nice and scenic and the atmosphere is great. A great event to have within driving distance from my home.
