Pre-race routine:

Woke up late (8:15) and had to rush to grab everything to be out the door in time. Didn't eat. Got to the race site at 8:40, 5 min before packet pick-up closed. Didn't really get into the "race" hoopla as this was just a supported long run for me.
Event warmup:

No warm up.

Comments:

We started out in the back of the pack to ease into the run and not get into the "race" mentality. That was a BIG mistake, we couldn't pass anyone and there were people walking and getting upset when we tried to pass. There were a few spots that allowed us to pass and we were sub 6 min pace trying to get by as many people as we could in that short area. Once we got onto 56th it was a lot easier to maneuver and we settled into ~6:50 pace, longer hill and into a headwind on the 2nd half of 56th street. The run inside of eagle creek was normal, some hills and a little bit of single track that slowed us down, but we were able to get by and get back up to speed quickly. Once I got back off 56th on the way back in, I could tell all the accelerations and decelerations had taken a toll on me and I was having trouble getting back up to speed after a corner or tree jump. My mile splits jumped into the 8min range and I even fell about 1.5 miles from the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the front of the race. Pushed harder the last 3 miles. Not play the mental game with myself of it just being a long run. When I started to hurt around mile 9, I thought to myself "it's JUST a training run, it doesn't need to be any harder than this". Should have pushed harder the last 3. Very Upsetting as I easily gave up 3-4 min in the last 4 miles and another ~3-4 in the first 3 miles due to not being able to pass. Which could have put me in contention for the OA podium.
Post race
Warm down:

Food. Stomach still isn't very nice after I get done racing this year. It's been a problem at all of my races and I wasn't able to get much food in post race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The single track trails and JUMPING over logs :).

Event comments:

Overall good first time event. I would like to know whether it was my garmin or the actual course that was off so that I can configure the 310 if it is wrong. Otherwise, the finisher medals were cool and it was nice being able to see live results/pictures.
