Run
Comments: Drove to the beach and parked. It was so windy that I was having to fight the wind to just keep walking. This worried me a little. Dropped my dry bag off, and went potty again. Got to my corral and laid my jacket on one of the posts. Thankfully by the time the race started, the wind died down a lot. Goal was to go a little slower for the first mile, then dial it in to my goal pace. I dropped my water bottle at the mile 5 mark and had to go back just a few steps in order to get it. Should have just left it. The first seven miles went awesome, I felt awesome. about 1/2 way into mile 8, I got this super sharp side cramp. It slowed me down instantly. I thought few deep breaths, and I would be good. It did not go away. I could not keep my speed through it at all. I decided at that time, to keep the slower 8:30ish pace until it went away. Well, it died down some, but was still there, so I ended up doing the slower pace for a good 5 miles. I kept flashing to how the last race ended, so I was ok with listening to my body this time. Overall, I got a race PR of 15:27 and a training PR of 7:26. Super happy with that. A little tired now, but overall, feeling really good. My splits were 8:14, 8:01, 8:05, 8:07, 8:01, 7:54, 8:03, 8:22, 8:31, 8:17, 8:31, 8:3, 8:22 and a sprint to the end. What would you do differently?: Not sure. The side cramp really set me back some. Would be awesome to not get the side cramp. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a banana and my finishers swag, and waited for my friend to finish. Once she came through the shoot, we walked into the beer tent and chatted with some friends for a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Side cramp that really hurt. Event comments: I love the races that J & A Racing puts on. Love the Shamrock!! Last updated: 2010-10-09 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:30, had a cup of coffee with some oatmeal and a protein shake. Got dressed and went to pick up a friend.
No warmup other than walking almost a mile to the start line.
