Swim
Comments: I felt great in the water....yet the course did feel a bit long. Since I missed my wave, I had plenty of traffic to get through...however, everyone seemed to be off course, so it was more like they were getting out of my way. I have not been in a pool in over two months so I've been hitting the lake twice a week for 30 mins a peice...for the lack of work I've been putting in lately...I'll take the 30 min any day of the week. What would you do differently?: I'd pay more attention to the announcer and make my wave on time. Transition 1
Comments: Since it's straight up out of transistion...I opted not to do a flying mount...worked out great since I flewe by others stuck on their way up trying to get their shoes situated. What would you do differently?: For some reason a hard run to transition after a good swim kills me. I am going to start practicing techniques to get better acclimated to fast running right out of the water. I jsut felt like I was doing the fat person shuffle. Bike
Comments: My bike is just not right lately. I got a new ride about 5 weeks ago and I'm still in the process of getting dailed in on the Specialized. I am getting close though. I realized after the race that I had not lubed up the chain after taking the time to de-grease and completely clean my drive chain...I felt like my gears were off and that there was something holding me back in the race...it may have been the lack of lube. Or it could have been the fact that I'm just not as in shape as I've been for previous races. Either way, I'm not losing sleep over it. What would you do differently?: Lube my chain...not much else. Had a great time on the course...some traffic got in my way though. It's not very often that you are the one passing cars on the left. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty goo transition. The transition was weird in that it was pretty big. Thus, not many sub 1 minute transition times. Although my left shoe popped off my bike during my flying dismount. That's the second race in a row...need to fix that!!! What would you do differently?: Nothing really... Run
Comments: The climb out of transition was brutal for me. Historically, I do best when I am able to start easy on the run and work up to a faster pace within the first mile. In this case, I was in the hurt box 60 seconds into the run. I had studied the course and knew it would get better...but that climb took a little too much out of me. I could feel that I was hesitant to push the pace after that for fear that I'd blow up. What would you do differently?: Not sure what else there is to do different there. I had plenty of gas in the tank when it was over so I may have tried a quicker cadence. Post race
Warm down: Food, Beer, Good friends and a sports massage from Jake. What limited your ability to perform faster: Overall training is down. Event comments: This race was exactly what I needed. I was simply looking for a nice race that would have plenty of fan-fare. There was always something going on!!! Personally, I've been training like a surfer these past 3 months(meaning, I just go out and get dirty, hit the pavement, splash in the lake, etc...) so there hasn't been much "formal" training. So Im' not surprised my splits were a little off. However...my take it easy approach made this one of the most fun event's I've done in a really long time. I think I'll make this my "no pressure" race from here on out :) Last updated: 2010-10-15 12:00 AM

Woke up around 4:45 and had a cup of coffee and PB and Banana sandwich. I had everything packed up so I had plenty of down time to relax and read more on the events in Kona the day before.
Not much really...set up transition and had plenty of time to walk around. I was more in the fun mode for this event and enjoyed visiting with friends. As a matter of fact, I missed my swim wave and basically just walked up to the end of the peir and just dived in as they hurrried me along. Was in the water and swimming before I even knew it.
