Pre-race routine:

Had pancakes and eggs for breakfast, got to sleep in a bit as the race didn't start until 11. Had about an hour drive over, pretty uneventful morning really.
Event warmup:

Didn't do a lot of warm up. I jogged to the car to get my sunglasses then stretched a bit. Had to pee once, poor women had an atrocious line, guys really didn't.

Comments:

I went into this knowing that I wanted to be 2hrs but I knew I was going to have to push hard, for me anyway. The first 6 miles felt real good, I just went and ran at a pace that I thought I could maintain. I was wrong of course, but I wanted to go harder than normal and see how long I could maintain it. All in all, pretty pleased. I didn't really leave anything on the table and the last mile split will probably prove it when I find my Garmin cord. I walked a lot of the uphills later on in the race. I ran the first few and figured out pretty quick that it was more of an energy drain than it was worth for me. So, I walked the uphills and pushed the flats and downhills as much as I could. I had never tried to run/walk before and this on the fly experiment kind of worked out for me.
What would you do differently?:

Condition more. My run volume has been way down for the last couple of months. I think swimming probably saved me a bit on this one.
Post race
Warm down:

Not a problem. I was sweating when I got done and as I waited for the other two in our group my jacket started to freeze.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Conditioning. Better than I expected, but not good. It was far better than the first one I ran, but not great in the grand scheme of things and I knew that going in.

Event comments:

Pretty good race. We didn't stick around long afterwards for anything though. The shirts are really nice long sleeve tech T's and the medals were nicer than the one I got in Fla. for my first one. Aid stations were spaced about every 3 miles which worked and they had good signs and people at every turn. Organized event, good turnout, everyone was helpful that I talked too. Ran about 8 miles with a girl from Wichita that completely whipped my ass in the last mile. All in all it was pretty damn good day. Of course any day that you get to go run is a good day, right?

Performance: Good
Course: Hilly.....let me repeat that.....HILLY. Some icy gravel roads to deal with, but I did a 9 mile a couple weeks back on the same terrain (only flatter) so I knew what to expect there. Good mix of suburban neighborhoods and country roads.
Keeping cool Good Drinking Not enough
