Swim
Comments: Pretty much a constant battle swimming around/through other swimmers ahead of me. Could still find a decent rythem and pace. Wetsuit feels a little tight around the shoulders though. What would you do differently?: Was my first swim in about 3 weeks (unless snorkeling counts). Should have gotten some more pool time to strengthen the shoulders. Transition 1
Comments: First time using a tri-suit. Makes it so much easier not worrying about changing clothes. Would have liked to have a towel to get some of the dirt off my feet before putting the bike shoes on. Would have done that but it was a 'clean transition' area. Love the wet-suit strippers, especially when it's a cute girl. What would you do differently?: Not confident enough to use the bike shoes pre-installed on pedals method, but would definetly help with my time. Bike
Comments: I smoked the bike all things considered...it was only my second time on a tri-bike. Just bought it prior to going on vacation, then had no time to ride on it prior to the race. Didn't have the aero bottle setup right. Straw was in the wrong hole, had to move it to the closer hole but in doing so I lost the plastic cap over the 1st hole. Had gatorade sloshing all over the place. Then later tried to refill aero bottle w/ a gatorade bottle from the aid station. Gatorade bottle got stuck in the opening on the cap, when I yanked it out the little foam 'one-way valve' came off and an even bigger hole splashed even more gatorade all over the place. Drink ops was a total disaster...straw not long enough, so had to bend over to take a sip. What would you do differently?: Get more time on new bike, get my logistics down so I'm not struggling with it in the saddle. Got fatigued from being in aero position so long, muscles not used to it. Put only water in aero bottle so bike is not a sticky mess afterwards. Lube up the nether region - got some serious chaffing from the tri-saddle. Rode too hard and cooked my legs for the run...just was having too much fun halling ass on my new bike. Transition 2
Comments: Entered T2 with Phish - Chalk Dust Torture rockin' on the PA. A nice little pick me up after the long ride. Took extra time putting on compression socks but in the end it was worth it. Run
Comments: Legs cooked from bike. Started really slow the first mile but calves slowly started to come around. Ate the wrong flavor gel at the start of the run: espresso. Didn't think about the GI consequences...but after the short pitstop for the deuce, felt much better. Still couldn't run at the pace I did in Oly distance. What would you do differently?: Do better job pacing myself on the bike. Lack of training leading up to race didn't help. Post race
Warm down: Wish they could provide some decent post-race beer. Michelob Ultra may have a nice marketing campaign to appeal to the fitness crowd - like the thin cans, but it tastes like liquid cardboard. What limited your ability to perform faster: Returning from a two week vacation in Hawaii 4 days before the race didn't help. Sleep patterns all off and not much training to speak of. Event comments: Very happy with my race. Doing Ironman Arizona in 4+ weeks...need to put the hammer down now!! Last updated: 2010-10-19 12:00 AM

Coffee + granola bar after wake-up. Thought I would arrive in plenty of time to drop T2 bag off then take shuttle to Swim start and T1 area...instead sat in traffic for 45 minutes and got my warm-up rushing to get everything setup. Pretty sunrise set me back in good spirits. Waited around an hour for my heat.
Hurried walk from timbuktu parking lot to T2 to shuttle bus.
