Pre-race routine:

this was my first NYRR race. Picked up my race# timing chip, and T-shirts on Thursday. It was great idea.

Got up early and drove down to the city. Finding parking was a hassle, I had circle around blocks for quite some time. Originally planned to stop by at my gym which very close to the start line to use bathroom, change, warm up and store my bag in the locker. The gym was suppose to open at 8am according to the schedule but when I got to the door at 8:02, a lot people were waiting outside. A lot of fellow runners had the same idea. I waited until 8:12 and decided to just go to the start line. Luckily they had a baggage service(seems not so secure but works) I had my bag hang from the railing locked with my gym lock. Then I rushed to the porta patty. After waiting in line for a few minutes and when I came out of the bathroom, I only had 4 minutes to start.
Event warmup:

Could not warm up as much as I wanted but it was surprisingly warm in 49F temperature. I was going to wear a pair of gloves but decided not to wear them and it was just fine.

Comments:

I told myself before the start and beginning of race many times to go slow on the first mile. My goals of this race were to run under 7min/mile pace, go slow in the beginning and enjoy my first race in the city.

Result? Even though I told myself many times to go slow, my first mile pace was second fastest and the 2nd mile was the fastest. I slowed way down on the 3rd mile to more than 30 seconds slower than the best mile. Picked up little on 4th mile but started sprinting too early on the final mile only to slow down at the finish. Oh, I couldn't keep up with the guy wearing full banana costume. I could not run under my goal pace of 7min/mile but I enjoyed the race very much!
What would you do differently?:

Park far from the starting line to get easier parking, warm up run to the start line and store bag at baggage service.

Sloow down on first and second mile!
wear banana costume: )
Post race
Warm down:

ate bagel, drank recovery drink, and stretched by the stage listing to nice live music.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

pacing

Event comments:

It was a great organized race. Great volunteers! As a newbie NYRR member, I'm looking forward to do bunch of races coming year.
