Pre-race routine:

Woke up 5:15, steel cut oats, apple, banana, 10 oz. Infinit, long walk after parking the car, got there w/ 30 min. left in transition.

Everyone joined together to honor the fallen of 9/11 ten years ago by singing the National Anthem (not a dry eye in sight)
Event warmup:

None: crammed together in the "corral".

Comments:

Swim portion canceled due to heavy rains the last week.
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Time Trial Start at the front of T1. A bit muddy in some spots. Just grabbed the bike and ran. Grr, forgot to stop on 1st pedal stroke and step on other pedal and pedal a few strokes up to speed (tried to get into the shoe right away), kept getting shoe jammed on road.
What would you do differently?:

Practice mounts until you can do it in your sleep.

Wow, total fun pushing through the traffic. Avg. speed 22.3 mph. Flat is fun! Personal Best on the powermeter for 1 hr. (179W)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

Nice and fast, although foot got caught on shoe at first (top of heel of shoe collapsed under the heel of my foot).
What would you do differently?:

Don't get too sloppy putting on the shoes.

Comments:

Nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

Muscle Milk, chow, massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wrinkles in transitions.

Event comments:

Good organization, lots of volunteers, but the bike course really is too crowded for such a large race. Then again, racing on closed streets in the Nation's Capital is pretty cool. Totally stoked about my run improvement. A great race and a beautiful day (MUCH better than the rain last year)
