Pre-race routine:

Try to keep it together...
Event warmup:

The swim was my warm up ; )
Swim
  • 21m 21s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

lake swim very choppy in high winds I noticed a lot of people having a tough time of it (which boosted my confidence) also I felt like I was passing more people then getting passed which was nice. However my final swim time was pretty average and slower then I usually swim a 1/2 mile in a pool. It musta been the chop slowing me down. I drank a TON of water on the swim so I was nicely hydrated for the rest of the race ; )
What would you do differently?:

Take swimming lessons
Transition 1
  • 03m 39s
Comments:

Disaster transition! This was my first tri and I was totally disoriented in T1. At one point I spaced out and was just watching someone else transition. Then I snapped to and couldnt get my socks on. I couldnt figure out if I should put my race belt/number on for the ride or not so it went on, then off, then I saw someone near me with it on so I put it back on. Oi. I blew this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Everything. It can only get better.
Bike
  • 40m 41s
  • 10.56 miles
  • 15.57 mile/hr
Comments:

It was crazy windy on part of the ride which was on a road next to the ocean and there had been the tail end of a hurricane in the area so the wind was really whipping. The head wind was bad for a few miles, I was working hard, going 12mph. No good. I rode most of the course with a clydesdale, passing each other back and forth the whole way, it was great, we paced each other plus he was a great wind shield ; )

What would you do differently?:

I need to do a lot more bike training. I want to get a tri bike and get into areo position, thats a goal.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

This transition went better, not too much fumbling around, I was psyched to get off my bike and get running which is what I was most preped for.
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed harder earlier
Run
  • 25m 42s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

this was my strongest portion of the race, 8.20miles which for me is a personal best... I was psyched about the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Flopped down on grass. Took lots of silly pics with my friends, went back to a house we rented near the race and drank two bottles of champagne while soaking in a hot tub. FUN day!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My first tri, I was cautious, could of let it rip a little more on the bike and swim.

Event comments:

I'd do it again.
