Swim
Comments: Took a little while to get over the cold water and the anxiety of a race start. After a couple hundred yards I got settled in. Only bumped into a few and only a few bumped into me. This was the first time using a full wet suit. The suit fit well and I didn't notice too much extra resistance in the shoulder. Was happy that I went with the full instead of the sleeveless. What would you do differently?: Probably could have pushed a little more the last 500. As this is only my second race at this distance I'm still trying to find the right pace. Transition 1
Comments: As it was starting to drizzle before we left for the swim, I placed all my bike gear in the bucket and flipped it over to keep everything dry. I dumped it out so nothing was organized. I like taking my time a bit to dry off and put my socks on etc. What would you do differently?: I should have rolled my arm warmers up prior. Should probably stop with drying the feet - benifit is short lived. Deffinately need to improve my T1 time. Bike
Comments: Did not know what to expect. I didn't recon the course prior so I had no idea what the course was like. The wind was constant and the rain came about mid way but didn't last too long. Stayed in the small ring to help keep my cadence higher. This, along with making sure my nutrition was maintained helped me in the run afterwards. What would you do differently?: Should have checked out the course prior. With that knowledge I would have known I could have pushed a little more. Transition 2
Comments: Getting out of my shoes and bringing my right leg over to the left went well. But just as I got balanced I had to make a right turn into the parking lot at speed. Breaking and turning while standing on the left side of the bike was tricky. Thought I might loose it there in front of the dismount area. Not cool. Overall I thought T2 went well. What would you do differently?: Leave the sunglasses behind. Run
Comments: Run was ok. Again the heavy rains opened up about mid way through but stopped a few minutes later. Took water 2x but not much. No cramping. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. Mixed up my bottle of recovery drink. Walked over to the pavillion for a bite to eat. What limited your ability to perform faster: T1 and the bike could have been better. Event comments: Overall this was a good race. Yes the water is cold but not so much that you can't swim in it. We were deffinately fortunate to get the race in before the storms rolled in. There were multiple tornadoes that came through the Raleigh area later in the afternoon. I used this race as a training block. My "A" race is my 1st HIM in 4 weeks. Last updated: 2010-10-24 12:00 AM

Up at 0500 with the plan to leave by 0600. Figured it to be about a half hour drive. Discovered that we were out of bagels which I thought was "not the way I want to start the day". Settled for a piece of banana bread instead to go along with my banana and coffee. Got all loaded up and left at 0545.
Got to the site at 0615. After getting my chip and body marked I finished setting up. Had about an hour to wait before the pre-race brief. Should have brought my MP3 player.
None really. Swung the arms around a little bit. Waded in and tried to acclimate to the temp of the water. Did a discharge of ballast #1 that provided some relief along with a little temporary warmth.
