Pre-race routine:

Parents live in Caloundra so dropped off bike into transition and went back to their place for a bite to eat. Wound up almost being late for the race as the kids wanted to come too and were dragging the chain.
Event warmup:

Few quick stretches. Have had bronchitis for last week or two so not 100%
Swim
  • 10m 59s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 45s / 100 meters
Comments:

V slow swim today. I think I might have swum too far (around the wrong buoy).

Was just following other guys though so I guess we all did it, but was 2 min slower than Raby Bay.

What would you do differently?:

Check out the course properly before hand including visualizing the buoys to round
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

My wife and kids saw me off at the start of the swim and managed to make it round to high-five me coming out of the water. Great stuff!

OK transition
Swigged some water while putting bike shoes on. Once again was too scared to put feet in shoes on the bike so probably cost a bit of time but keener to stay safe.
Bike
  • 32m 51s
  • 15 kms
  • 27.40 km/hr
Comments:

Pretty happy as was 3 min faster than Raby Bay
What would you do differently?:

Definitely need more cycle training
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Pretty happy with the transition though was raining pretty hard
Run
  • 19m 14s
  • 4 kms
  • 04m 49s  min/km
Comments:

Found it pretty hard as plenty of puddles and sloshing shoes.

Was coughing a bit and felt like retching a couple of times ... great days!

What would you do differently?:

Need to do more proper brick session as felt very sluggish off the bike today when was actually pushing harder on the bike
Post race
Warm down:

Met up with Lisa and the kids. Gatorade and fruit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still coughing from lingering bronchitis.

Would've preferred a dry course, but at least it wasn't too hot!

Event comments:

I would've preferred to beat my Raby Bay time by a bit more but overall wound up having much more fun this time around. Really got into the fun of it all especially with my wife and kids this time around.
