Swim
Comments: This was a great swim. The water temp was perfect and I was able to find a good person to draft about half way through the race. She set a good pace and was doing a great job spotting the bouys. Everytime I lifted up my head we were going straight towards the bouy. So I decided to trust her and just started following her and was able to get into a good rhythm.I followed her all the way to shore. When we both got out of the water, I realized I knew her from my masters class.I found her at the end of the race and thanked her for helping me through the race. She laughed and said, "so that was you." I really liked the distance of this swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I could probably have pushed myself a little harder during the 2nd half, but I felt I had a good rhythm going and a good draft. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Ok, this is where it always sucks for me. I'm not good on the bike. But I can't say that I was unprepared for this course. I bike this area every weekend and knew the torture that was in store. The first half was tolerable, but the last half (which was a steady climb with no break) was just survival. I pretty much kept my bike in my easiest gear and tried to keep a steady cadence as I watch a million people pass me. Oh well, I know what area I have to work on. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was just happy I kept going. Obviously, I have to bike more to improve. But since I just learned how to ride a road bike less than a year ago, I think I have made a lot of progress. Transition 2
Comments: The website did not list a T2 time. Maybe it was rolled into the bike time? Run
Comments: I got off the bike and my feet felt a little numb. I was able to run the 1st 1.5 miles but was not feeling very strong. When I hit the turn around marker for the sprint course I kinda fell apart mentally. I just thought "sh*t I've only gone 1.5 miles, I'm not even close to half way there". So I started walking. But then I thought, "no, you're not just gonna walk this whole thing. You are still capable of running with some breaks. And you don't want to have regrets". So I did walk/run intervals and started running again for longer stretches. On my way back from the Oly turn around, I decided that when I passed the sprint turn around I would not stop running. I would run the last 1.5 miles and finish strong. And that's what I did. What would you do differently?: I would have pushed myself to run more. I'm pretty sure I'm physically capable of doing it, I just got a little overwhelmed by the distance. Just like the biking, I have to run more and get used to that distance. Post race
Warm down: It was cool to run across the finish line because my husband and kids were there along with some of the people I bike with. I actually knew a few other people doing this event, so it was fun to be racing people I knew. What limited your ability to perform faster: All the hills. I would be so much faster without them. LOL. Event comments: Best tri I've done. Really well organized and good aid stations. Last updated: 2010-10-25 12:00 AM

I was the last wave to go, so my husband and older son and I watched the other waves go (we left the younger kids home with a babysitter). Some of the people I bike with showed up to watch the race. I was able to get into the water and swim around little before the wave started.
