Swim
Comments: Good swim for me, considering I hadn't been in the water for over a month. Stayed off to the right at the start since I can't handle the washing machine (claustrophobia), but still stayed on course and caught up to 2-3 prior waves by the time I finished. Transition 1
Comments: Took longer than anticipated but wanted to make sure I had everything. Bike
Comments: Really poor bike. Was third to the last wave, so had to pass a lot of ladies. I get nervous passing (especially when roads are open to traffic), so I got stuck behind and wasn't aggressive enough. Walked up two hills, because there were ladies 4 deep trying to climb the hills and swerving all over the road. Just didn't feel safe enough to try to climb up with all the novices (not that I'm an expert). Lost my chain on another hill and it took me forever to get it back on and get going. Very poor bike leg for me. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Ran down hills and walked uphill. Heel spur could not take the uphills very well. I ran conservatively and mostly walked since I was worried about the shin splints I had been dealing with the entire week prior to the race. Post race
Warm down: Felt a little woozy at the finish. At the race finish, they gave us ice cold towels which helped. Climbed the hill for some food (pbj bagel) and felt better. Packed up and walked back to the car with my bike. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training this summer. Event comments: This was my third time completing this race. I love the Iron Girl, but I just really was not prepared for it this year. I was on the fence as to whether or not to even race this year, but my daughter convinced me I should go. I was happy I did it - I just wish I had done the work necessary to finish strong instead of just finishing. Lessons learned. Last updated: 2010-11-04 12:00 AM

Parked at a friend's house about 1/2 mile away and walked to the race site. My husband and daughter couldn't come, so this was the best way I could think of to not have to deal with traffic in and out of the park.
Set up transition area in the pouring rain. Luckily, it stopped raining enough so that the race could go off and the sun came out. It was delayed by about 20 minutes due to lightning/thunder.
