Swim
Comments: My goggles broke right before the race but I wasnt too worried about it. I swam without them and realized its WAY easier to site without goggles! I dont think I'll bother swimming with goggles in a lake or river again. I swam 2.55 pace, a bit slower then I swim in practice workouts. I haven't done a ton of swim training so this is pretty much what I expected. What would you do differently?: train to swim Transition 1
Comments: I took way too much time drying my feet off! I actually sat down to clean them! Duh, it was so humid my feet were going to end up wet anyhow, I should have just jammed my socks and shoes on and taken off. Oh and then I had to stop for a bathroom break... this is the first time I've have to stop during a race to use the bathroom, drag. Anyhow, my T1 time sucked! What would you do differently?: Stay focused, mentally go over T1 before the race. Bike
What would you do differently?: Nothing, LOVED this part of the race! Transition 2
Comments: this went fine, I felt focused and didn't waist any time. Run
Comments: I kinda lost it on my run. I have been running so much better then this in training and in my last two bricks. I think it was the heat and also not sleeping the two nights before the tri (I've gotta figure out how to get a decent night sleep before a race)! Or I might of spent my legs on the bike... or all of the above. The run felt long and plodding but I felt if I had picked up my pace, I might have had to stop and walk which I didn't want to do so I stuck with a moderate pace, not at all what /should/ be my race pace... I'm a bit disappointed with my performance. What would you do differently?: not get psyched out, not be scared to push it! Post race
Warm down: Nibbled on a bagel and drank a little chocolate milk they had at the finish area. Walked around looking for my friend. She had a nice 12 mile run while the race was happening... What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of sleep and rest during taper week Event comments: All and all I did well, I placed 191 out of 1000, not exactly the podium but closer to the front then the back: ) This race had its ups and downs but lots to learn from here. Pre race was hectic because the friend I was doing it with neglected to tell the race director she wanted to switch from a tri to a du, leaving that to the last minute on race morning. So we had to get to the race site EARLY (5am), it was a bit stressy, plus I didn't sleep at all the night before so I was feeling a bit edgy and not happy. To top it off, She left her bike tire on the street when we packed the car up to drive over to the race site, so I was helping her scramble to deal with it.
I jogged up a hill almost 1/2 a mile back to my car (which was locked with a door code I had to punch in) with my friend so she could take my car and race back to where she left her tire on the street, get it and race back before her wave started. It felt very hectic, I shouldn't have let her stress me out but, well I got sucked into her drama. Then I jogged back down to the race site, glad to have her out of my hair. It was more "warm-up" then I cared for. Grrrrr. She ended up not making it back in time anyhow. Meanwhile my GI was acting up... proly from not sleeping well and nerves.
