Swim
Comments: I was very worried about the swim, by far my longest open-water distance. In reality, the swim was really smooth. My biggest problem was that I was too timid at the beginning, and found myself in with slow swimmers. Once I got around them (first buouy turn), I was pretty much on my own, passing swimmers from earlier waves. Sighting wasn't bad - just got off course a bit a couple of times. Probably could've gone a bit harder, but I was unsure of distance to go until almost at the final turn. What would you do differently?: Wade out a bit further, start off stronger to put some distance between me and slower swimmers. Not much else, though... Transition 1
Comments: Really got a good move on, and out onto the road quickly, when I couldn't get clipped in. Turned out that my cleat (left shoe) had come loose, and I had to get the tools out to fix it. What would you do differently?: Check to ensure that shoes/cleats are ready to rock! Bike
Comments: Other than cleat problem (see T1 notes), really a good ride. I still need to get more used to pushing it on the ride, but overall a really nice ride. I think the cleat cost me about 1:30 in the bike - with that taken off, I would've been 6th in the AG for the segment. Probably should've had a 2nd bottle. Might've been a bit dehydrated by run segment. What would you do differently?: Not much... Transition 2
Comments: Except for forgetting to take my helmet off, not bad at all. Volunteer yelled at me about helmet, let me toss it to him on my way out of transition. Run
Comments: I was never really comfortable - I think I need to do some more bricks, with hard running after - especially in the heat. I had to walk a few times, kind of crazy for a 3.4 mile run. Passed two Clydesdales and 7 50+ guys (orange caps) on the run...was passed by NONE! The run is my specialty, no surprise there. What would you do differently?: More bricks! Post race
Warm down: Eating and rehydrating...wish I would've gotten in the lake. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike cleat, of course. Getting used to pushing myself harder on the bike. Event comments: I enjoyed this - a TON. I will do it again. Last updated: 2010-11-18 12:00 AM

Oatmeal in the morning. Arrived a bit too early - around 5:05am. Pre-race info made it seem like parking might be crowded, but they were still putting folks in the overflow lot after 6am.
Once I arrived, had a couple of trips between transition and car. Got everything setup in transition in plenty of time, transition closed at 6:45. Walked with Michael over to swim start, and chatted with local AA County folks.
I was in the 8th swim wave, went off at 7:46.
None....
