Comments: The goal for today was 3:50 and hit a 3:58. Missed my goal by 8 minutes primarily due to the 'wall' I hit about mile 22. I started out pacing in the 8:50 range, went down to 8:20's for a few miles (6-11) and then started to creep back up closer to 9:00 as mile 15-19 approached...by mile 21 I was starting to feel the fatigue in my legs and the mental challenge was kicking in... pace started to slow to 9:30's and ultimately I had to walk an aid station or two and then the last 2-3 miles I had to walk/run with my pace falling into the 10's. I was still setting a PR and would finish under 4 hours but I could feel my 3;50 goal slipping away. I worked hard to finish strong but it took everything I had to run without my right hamstring cramping...was looking for the family during the finish but didn't see them. Overall a good run and I know I can improve! What would you do differently?: I think I could get started a bit stronger instead of going out slower. Get right into the race pace and try not to make up time at the end... Post race
Warm down: Walk around with some food...I was feeling pretty cold and rather light headed...met my wife Alex and the kids. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much...I think it's my race strategy....have to get out to race pace right away and try not to make it up at the end. Woke up at 4:00 AM to meet Kevin and Nicki at the Rocky Run YMCA at 4:30 AM. Swung into Wawa to pick up some coffee, water, a banana and a few power bars.
Parked on 22nd street about 5:15 and hung out in the car until about 6:00. Walked to the race site and spent some time just talking and getting ready.
Nothing at all really....
