Pre-race routine:

I went with my wife who also raced, and we met up with 2 friends there that were also racing. First we got our race packet and put on our numbers and timing chips. We wandered around checking out the race site and watched some people from the earlier starting waves finish, which was fun, as we got to see them climb over the rope walls, jump over the fire hurdles, and crawl through the mud pit, all on the stretch before the finish line.
Event warmup:

I jogged around a bit to make sure my legs were loose. We ran in the 9:00AM start wave.

Comments:

What an entertaining course! The highlights were the creek bed run (I fell down in a couple of holes that I couldn't see since they were underwater), jumping over the fire hurdles (which is scary since it's at the end when your legs are tired), and the crawl through the mud pit.

I felt like I paced it well and was passing people all along the way since I started out in the middle of the pack. I think I had a pretty consistent speed and didn't have anything left at the end. I took a cup of water at the one aid station just to pour on my head to keep cool. My pace (~7:47 min/mile) wasn't much slower than my fastest 5k pace so far (~7:34 min/mile), so I felt like it was a good run for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I didn't get hung up on any of the obstacles.
Post race
Warm down:

After I finished, I stood near the end and watched our friends and my wife finish. Then we went and got the mud hosed off of us and checked the results.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just my run fitness. I felt like I got through the obstacles pretty quickly.

Event comments:

Overall it was really fun. We didn't really stick around long for the post-race activities, so I can't really comment on that.
