Pre-race routine:

Yet another belated race report....

Drove down with friends and hung out in the car with the heater on until finally deciding to do a warm-up before the race.
Event warmup:

Did an easy mile with some strides thrown in.
Run
  • 40m 52s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Went out way too fast the first mile and tried to hang on from there. Slowed down some after I saw my 1st mile split. Wind was very cold at the turn around. Legs started feeling like jello around mile 4. Miles 5 and 6 were tough and a good part of mile 6 was on a gradual uphill. Got passed by a few people and it sucked knowing I couldn't go any faster. Kicked it up a notch at mile 6 and it was tough to hold that pace the last .2 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Try to pace myself a little better the first mile. I knew I was going to be in trouble at that point, but it didn't really impact me much until around mile 4.
Post race
Warm down:

Got water, bagels, and hot chocolate, found a place to stretch that was out of the wind and waited to meet up with my friends. It was below 30 degrees by the end, so everyone was just trying to stay warm and then get out of there.

Event comments:

A fun, festive race. The after-race food/beverages could have been more numerous and better organized. I think they ran out of hot chocolate fairly quickly.
