Swim
Comments: At the start, waves were hitting loudly. As we went in the water, they were high enough to hit you in the chest as you waded out. The first 100 meters we had to swim away from the buoy so the current would carry us towards it. Then...way off course! Current went along shore (which was good) but it also went out to sea. Tide was moving out at start time so current was pulling everyone out. At one point I was probably about 300 meters out further than I should have been. I could have had a much better swim time. My goggles leaked a bit cuz the waves were just pounding me in the head. About every fourth wave was big enough to crash over the top of my head. The chop was pretty bad. I didn't drink a lot of the Gulf though. What would you do differently?: Stay on course. Transition 1
Comments: Good T1, even though it took a little while longer than I normally take. But I got everything in order and got out. No wondering if I forgot something this time. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I had a good bike. I've not averaged 21mph in a race before so I'm happy with that, but I'll bet I could have gone faster. I was all about not using it all up on the bike so I had some left for the run, but I think I could have pushed 22 and still been ok. I can only get faster! What would you do differently?: Perhaps a little more speed. I think I need to raise my seat a bit too. Next race I'll have pedals and shoes!! Transition 2
Comments: Just rack, swig, and go. No problem! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Good run!! This was faster than the last 10K I did. And that time I didn't swim or bike before it! I can't wait to see what my 10K time comes down to in July at the Mease Midnight Run! I passed a few people here, lots looked like they were struggling here. I was pretty happy until I got to the sand...then UGH. My last mile took 10 minutes. The rest I was probably on an 8 minute or so pace. My first mile was fast...too fast, didn't wanna burn up at mile 4, so I slowed down a bit. Overall though, I was really happy with the run. Not once did I feel like I needed to stop to walk. What would you do differently?: Go even faster. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, had some pizza, met up with Vinny and the family, talked a bit...had some Pepsi, Gatorade, more pizza, more water. Got bike out of transition and packed everything up. Met up with Mark (RedCorvette) and chatted for a few minutes while he checked bikes out of the transition area. What limited your ability to perform faster: My inexperience with Oly distance. Next one will be faster!! Event comments: I was thrilled with this race. Probably one of the best-organized races I've done. Got to meet up with Mark, meeting BTers is always a pleasure. I was so happy that Vinny (dlugiwarriors) and the family came down to cheer me on. He was the LOUDEST GUY ON THE COURSE!! It was really awesome having someone loud to cheer me on. THANKS VIN!!! I had a great time at this race, can't wait to beat that time next year. I have nothing but good thoughts about the day, even though the swim was crazy. Guess I kinda feel like the St. A's people now. Didn't get to meet up with Ty Darby, but that's probably because I was so rushed in getting out of there to get out to Disney. Looks like he had a comparable race at 2:36:23. Way to go Ty! I'd definitely do this one again. Lots of fun! Yay for my first Oly!!! Woohoo!!!! Last updated: 2006-03-01 12:00 AM

Got up at 0530, got bike, equipment, and food ready to go. Put everything in the truck, drove to the race site.
Ran a mile. I had forgotten my helmet in the truck and needed to get it to transition. I remembered this about 10 minutes before the start. So I booked...got the helmet, brought it to transition and ran back down to the start. Yup, I was warm.
