Swim
Comments: 1. I don't know how I didn't drown. 2. How in heck did I not come last? The rough chop was terrible. I drank too much sea water, got overtaken by the two waves that came after me. The only positives are that I navigated well consider the strong cross-current and that I rounded the can okay. I wore my Garmin in my cap - attached it to my pony tail. It stayed, I didn't lose it and was very glad with that. What would you do differently?: Not swim? Take a bullet and wait till the last person in my wave exits the water (I swear it should have been me). I need a lot more open water practice. Transition 1
Comments: Way better than last time. I ditched the socks and didn't worry about washing my feet. I was careful removing my cap so as not to drop the Garmin. It recorded the swim course really well :) Also I didn't have to worry about it being kicked on my hand - cos we were all over each other. What would you do differently?: Nothing. It was a really good T1 - IMO! Bike
Comments: After an initial hiccup getting the right foot clipped in, it turned out to be a really good bike leg. The headwind was strong but I was able to average a pretty good speed - about 24 km/hr. With the tailwind on the way back, I averaged 32km/hr. I was much better on the turns this time, and the dismount went well. Transition 2
Comments: Happy with this transition. Someone else's bike got a little in the way - on hands and knees to get my cap! Again, I ditched the socks for the run and it paid off. :) Run
Comments: I really liked this run. It felt good (even with numb feet). I overtook a lot of people, which helped make up for the crappy swim. I had a quicker 2nd km than first, which was one of my aims. What would you do differently?: Nothing I can think of yet. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: The crazy ocean. Event comments: Aside from the swim, I really enjoyed this race. I want to get better in the water, but that takes practice and time. So I have to be patient. I still found it short, so I'm looking forward to the bike & run being longer (not so much the swim). I believe the ocean at Sandringham is rough also, so fingers crossed I get through it okay. Overall, I am enjoying the triathlon - training and racing. Just a bit stronger in the water and I think that will help. Last updated: 2010-11-24 12:00 AM
