Pre-race routine:

We had to travel to this race and spend the night away from home prior to... In haste, I forgot all of my pre-workout supplements that I am used to training with.
Up early, very small breakfast. Hour drive to event, arrived 1.5 hrs before start.
Weather - Overcast, damp air and breezy. A cold front was blowing in with the temp dropping through the race to below 45.

Comments:

The hills caught me off guard, having never run the course.

People traffic in the beginning 2 miles was terrible. This race had timed and un-timed runners. The timed runners lined-up as usual, by expected pace. The un-timed were "supposed" to line up behind the timed and start 5 minutes later. This did not happen. I never had any illusions of placing in this event but I would have liked to run my pace for the first segment without constantly slowing down for groups of people walking.

Due to the weather, I wore one layer too many on the top - the last three miles were pretty warm.

Took a gel at the 4.5 mile mark as planned with water - worked out perfect.
Forgot to charge my iPod, and did not realize it was dead until I was already running - so i got to wear it the whole time just for fun!
What would you do differently?:

Line-up closer to the front.
Wear less clothes.
Use a bottle belt for gels and some water - I tend to inhale the water out of a cup and choke myself.
Make sure to pack all my supplements.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking around looking for my wife - does that count? It did help me cool down and stay loose.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Didn't train for the hills.

Event comments:

There should be more control on the starting line-up to minimize the intermingling of casual walkers from the runners (at least the timed vs. the un-timed). A side from that traffic, it was an overall well organized race. Had a lot of fun and hope to make it a tradition.
