Swim
Comments: Swim was as expected. I started toward the back this time and still wrestled with getting a steady state swim pace / pattern going. Not as bad as the boulder sprint, but lots of people to swim around. Also not keeping my face down in open water yet. Good time (typical swim for me). What would you do differently?: Need more practice with open water. Not confident yet. Transition 1
Comments: Ran and jumped...then stopped. Missed the right pedal and when I started pedaling with the left, the right hit the ground. My left shoe came loose and I had to stop to get it all situated properly. No issues with transition overall - came out of the water tired and used the run to T1 to steady breating and relax. Suit came off easily. What would you do differently?: No running mount on a longer race. Bike
Comments: OMG - the climb was way under estimated. Tough already with the first 8 miles or so being up-hill; however, the climb at the end was a killer. I strongly considered just getting off and walking - would have been faster. Probably averaged 5 on the hill. Going down I did make up much time even with speed limits in place. Did not drink enough and I paid for it on the run. What would you do differently?: Drink more and more hill work on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: No real issues. Forgot to take my feet out of shoes in advance and was rushing at the last minute to get them out before dismount. What would you do differently?: Remember to take feet out sooner Run
Comments: sucked!!! I tried to keep pace at the beginning but could not. Believe I did not drink enough on the bike and tried to make it up on the run - did not work. I did get yelled at by Dave Scott (encourgement - not anger), so that was cool. Was so glad after race, but had to stop and walk many times. What would you do differently?: RUN NEEDS WORK!!!! Post race
Warm down: Sat on butt. Was going to go to hot tub at hotel, but lost my wallet and ended up just packing up and going back to race site to find it (which I did). What limited your ability to perform faster: Being fat and out of shape primarily. Notihing outside of my control for sure. Event comments: Would do it again just to CRUSH this time. Nothing special - work up around 4:30 and went down to lobby at the hotel to toast a bagle for my peanut butter and bagle breakfast. I started hydrating and working on getting my system flowing.
