Swim
Comments: Had a really hard time spotting. I also missed the first buoy near the bridge and had to go back. Because start is a time trial start, you have to swim around/over a lot of people. Not a good swim for me. What would you do differently?: Warm up before swim. Practice spotting. Transition 1
Comments: Used wetsuit strippers, but left leg got caught on timing chip so they had a hard time getting my wetsuit off. Probably lost 15 seconds here. But still not a good transition. Took too much time getting helmet and sunglasses on. Shoes were attached to bike and was able to mount at the line ok. Got up to speed on bike before getting feet in shoes and buckling them. Overall, that part went well. What would you do differently?: practice T1 and removing wetsuit. Bike
Comments: Overall, I was happy with my bike. I probably pushed it too hard on the 2nd half and the hills, but I would probably do it that way again also. It is a blast to hammer that fast on the downhill and flats to the turnaround. I used Perpetum on the bike this time. Next time I think I will just stick with HEED. My stomach had a little trouble on the run. What would you do differently?: more hills. switch to HEED Transition 2
Comments: Not bad, but could still improve here. I probably lose 20-30 seconds to others here. I had a little trouble getting my running shoes on. My feet don't slide in easy enough. Might experiment with Vaseline or glide. What would you do differently?: more practice getting shoes on. Run
Comments: Running is still my weakest leg, but better than last year. Legs felt very stiff at the start (probably from pushing it on the bike). Had a hard time with the hills. I also had a bad cramp, but able to work it out. Felt a little better after the turnaround, but still hurting. It took a lot of will power to not walk for a bit. Happy that my splits were consistent and able to run under 7 for last mile. What would you do differently?: Run more. Run hills. Post race
Warm down: walked around and drank what they handed out at the finish. I then tried a Muscle Milk (chocolate). Not sure why people like these. They dont taste good. But they have a lot of protein. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough sleep the night before (really none). I also need to work on my running and increase my weekly volume. Event comments: Another great race. Aside from the swim, I really like this race. Great setting and course. And I love being able to stay this close so you can walk over in the morning. I cut 9 min off of last years time. Volunteers were also fantastic. Now I just need to recover enough for tomorrow's sprint. That will be painful. I only wish the local businesses of Waterville Valley supported the race better and there were better options for food. I am surprised there isnt a better place to eat. The customer service at a few of the local shops and condo's is also horrible. Last updated: 2010-12-03 12:00 AM

Woke up around 5am. I really never feel asleep so it was more like getting up than waking up. I had this issue last year also. Took quick shower and drank some coffee and ate a bagel with peanut butter and a yogurt. Filled water bottles and headed over to transition. It is so nice to be able to walk to transition from where you stay. It rained hard the night before so everything was wet, but sun was coming out and it looks like it will be a great day to race. Much better than last year.
Stomach was bothering me so really didnt get a chance to warm up. But I wish I did. I dont like starting a swim without warming up. I will make a point to warm up for the Sprint on Sunday.
