Swim
Comments: This was better than yesterday's, but still not what I hoped for. This course must be different than last year as I am still slower and in better swim shape this year. I was able to swim closer to the buoys and not get too far off course this time. I still went wide on the far side though and ended up in shallow water. Did a few dolphin dives to get back to deeper water. What would you do differently?: practice sighting Transition 1
Comments: Used wetsuit strippers again and this time it went much better. Off in one pull. Ran to T1 while removing cap and goggles. Put on helmet and glasses and left with bike. Shoes were attached again and was able to mount at the line. Had a little trouble spinning the right shoe around to get foot in and didnt get it buckled well. Had to adjust it again later (on the downhill). Quickly got up to speed and settled in. Overall this was better than yesterday. What would you do differently?: practice getting feet in shoes while on the bike. Bike
Comments: Pretty good bike considering how tired and sore I was. Able to avg 30mph for first half. I knew it would be painful on the return though. The lactic acid was really building in my legs. Avg 18.2 on second half, but it was really hard. Only 1 person passed me about .25 mi from the end of the bike and we finished around the same time. He was able to get out to T2 quicker than me though and I never saw him again (I am not a strong runner). What would you do differently?: If I was doing another multi-day event, I might include more multi-day bike rides in my training. Transition 2
Comments: Unbuckled shoes about 300 yards from T2. Hopped off at the line and ran into T2. Racked bike, took off helmet, put on race belt/number and put on shoes. I still have a hard time getting my shoes on though. What would you do differently?: Look to carry race belt and put it on once I am running. Use Vaseline or gel on shoes. Run
Comments: Not a good run. Legs felt like bricks and had bad stomach cramp right from start. Tried to muscle thru it (I can sometimes), but it didnt work. It was very hard to motivate myself to keep running and not walk. First set of hills really hurt and had to walk for a minute at turn around loop. Started running again after 30 seconds. Felt a little better, but stomach still not great. Downhills helped. Able to pick it up for last .5 mile, but it really hurt. Glad it was over. Results say I avg 6:59's, but my computer showed I was around a 7:30 pace which is more likely. What would you do differently?: More running. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Doing all 3 events and the kids tri. I think the extra 2 miles of chasing my kids on the bike and run really did me in. Event comments: Overall, another great race. I only wish I was able to do better. I think the cumulative effect of doing all 3 events really takes its toll. I was not able to stay around for the awards or post race activities. When I got home, I saw I came in 3rd in my AG for Lord of the Flies though. Wahoo! Glad I tried it this year. Slept better on Sat night than Friday night. Woke up at 5am. Still tired and fatigued. The TT and International are really wearing on me. Took a quick shower to wake up. Are a bagel with peanut butter, a yogurt and a coffee. Drank some water. Packed up and headed to transition at 6am. Its so nice to be able to walk there.
This time I made sure I got in a swim warmup. I think it really helped.
