Swim
Comments: This is a reverse tri and the swim was last. I had pushed fairly hard on the run and bike, so I was fatigued when I got in the pool. Add to that the drag from my loose tri top, and the fact that I haven't been swimming since Silverman 5 weeks ago, and I was feeling quite sluggish. Good thing it was a short swim. What would you do differently?: Swim training, perhaps. Also, for this race I'm thinking I should just wear a regular shirt and strip it off for the swim - less drag in just a sports bra. Transition 1
Comments: It was weird doing everything in reverse, but no big deal. It was nice to not have to deal with having wet feet. There were a lot of people heading out on the bike at the same time, so the bike mount area was backed up, which was a bit annoying. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I don't really waste a lot of time in transition. Bike
Comments: I pushed myself fairly hard for the whole ride. There were a lot of people riding slow in packs on the left, which made it hard to pass at times. People were doing dangerous things like riding in the opposing lane, passing on the right, and drafting. One guy sat about 6 inches behind me and sucked on my wheel for at least a mile before finally passing me. Overall, I passed a ton of people and felt pretty good. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: I encountered the same issue with traffic at the dismount line, but got back to my spot fairly quickly (almost couldn't find it). This transition was easy - rack bike, shoes and helmet off, grab goggles and go. What would you do differently?: Remember where my spot is. Run
Comments: I started off pretty fast (for me), maybe a bit too fast... I was pacing only by feel, since my watch battery died months ago and I have yet to replace it. I started to feel tired a bit too early, so I backed off a little during the second mile. After I hit 2 miles, I picked up the pace again, but avoided completely killing myself at the very end, since I still had to function in transition and then do the rest of the race. What would you do differently?: My pacing could have been better, but I think I did ok. Post race
Warm down: Found my mom, went and got a towel and flip-flops, got shaved ice, and walked around for a little while. What limited your ability to perform faster: I've been taking it pretty easy since Silverman. I'm not in peak shape. Event comments: I did the Tinsel Tri as my first tri 3 years ago, so it was cool to finally come back and see my progress. Also, I've been having motivation issues the last few weeks, and a fun race was just what I needed. Last updated: 2010-12-03 12:00 AM

After a couple days in San Diego, my mom and I drove to Hemet and stayed the night. In the morning we got Starbucks and headed to the race site around 7. I went through my usual routine of compulsively checking my bike and stuff, then we headed over so I could pick up my bib, chip and T-shirt. After setting up my transition area I had close to an hour to kill, so we just walked around.
I normally don't warm up, but I did this time because the run was first. I jogged up and down the street once, just enough to get my blood flowing, then I took my place in the pack.
