Swim
Comments: The stair climb at the end - which we would have done coming out of the water! - was hard on the quads. I passed quite a few people over this 500m. I thought that was quite crazy but then, running isn't everyone's strong suit. Felt sorry for the swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: No official T1 time. Based on the Garmin, this was 2:07. I felt a bit out of breath, so took a few seconds to recoup. Got the helmet on as I slipped out of my runners, then cycle shoes on & run. Bike
Comments: The mount line was on an uphill. My mount was good, despite a few people getting in the way. Mostly downhill on the way out, uphill on the way back. Dismount on a pretty steep downhill went really well. I was very happy with my ride. I passed a lot of people - and got passed by others - and was feeling pretty good with the fact that I'd trained in headwinds and up/down hills. Quite narrow course though. What would you do differently?: Not a lot. I was very happy with my ride. I rode hard, didn't really take it easy. Not smashing my legs was on my mind but I kind of ignored it! It paid off. Extremely crowded on course though. I've communicated with the organisers that it needs to change. Transition 2
Comments: T2 not officially recorded. Garmin says 48s. Quick! I basically reversed the process of T1 a lot faster. Really got moving. What would you do differently?: Nothing at all. T2 was pretty much perfect. Run
Comments: Loved it! Brick sessions clearly pay off. I enjoyed the downhill and relished the challenge of pushing up the hills. To keep a pace of 5:01min/km for 3km of hills has definitely put a smile on my dial! What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing! Post race
Warm down: Lots of walking. Cup of Gatorade, a banana & some lollies. What limited your ability to perform faster: Other people getting in the way. I think I could have recorded a quicker ride time but the narrow course meant I had to keep pulling in behind others as lots of other competitors were trying overtake me. Event comments: Despite the last minute change to a duathlon & some issues with the venue layout, today's race was a great load of fun. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I was actually a little disappointed with the cancellation of the swim because I was looking forward to it. Venue is renowned for flat water. It was flat today, though had a pretty heavy crosswind. I feel like I'm really pulling this together and enjoying the challenge of continuing to work on the little things! Last updated: 2010-12-12 12:00 AM

Up at 3am, on the road by 3:40am. Is this really the life of a triathlete? :P Spent time trying to work out the bike compound - it was a confusing sight. Heavy overnight rain & flooding changed the venue a bit and the organisers replaced the swim with a run.
Talky talky. Needed to really do more - it was freezing.
