Run
Comments: Tried to keep from going out too fast, ran my first mile in 9:31, right where I wanted to start. Miles 2-7 were all between 8:36 to 8:53. Good steady pace everything going well. Then I had to stop. The body was telling me it was a mistake to eat a late dinner Friday and skip out of the porta-pottie line. Fortunately there were 2 porta-potties at the 7 mile water stop. 2 minutes later and all was good, back to the race. Lap 8 was 10:29. Laps 9-13 were all within 6 seconds of each other, 8:43 to 8:49. When I turned off of 41 and could see the finish line I went into my kick. This was the first race that I had enough left to kick, it felt great. Even better was seeing that I was going to break the 2 hour mark. What would you do differently?: Stick to my normal 2 nights prior to the race big dinner with a smaller meal on the night before. Also get up early enough to get to the bathroom before the start of the race. Post race
Warm down: The hard kick to the finish really took a lot out of me at the end. This was the most exhausted I have felt after a race. Grabbed the crowd control fence to keep from falling over, tried to catch my breath then walked around and stretched the calves some. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor timing of a BM! Event comments: This was the best this race has been in the 3 times I have run this race. Last updated: 2010-12-12 12:00 AM

Went out for Italian on Friday night with a buddy who was also running the race. Normally I try to eat my big carb meal two nights prior to the race. This eventually became an issue during the race. Race morning was the normal, toasted wheat bagel with peanut butter and Nutella and a small glass of milk. Drove to parking lot just south of the start/finish area. Didn't get there as early as I would have liked, see issue later.
Jogged from parking lot to the start area, stretched a little then got in line for the porta-potties. Line did not move. When they started making the announcements to move to the starting corrals, I had a decision to make. Stay in line and start late or get to the start line and hold it as long as I could. I went with option #2.
