Swim
Comments: This was only my 2nd OWS Tri, so I am still trying to learn sighting and swimming within a group people. TT start with 20 people every 10 seconds. When my turn came, I lined up for the middle of my wave, jumped and swam. The fastest current was to the outside, but I stayed towards the middle out of the lane, definitely lost time there. Still, after the first 500 meters, everything went quickly. I enjoyed the swim, stayed within myself and outside of the main group. Felt great when I finished. This was my longest OWS (practice or racing). What would you do differently?: Need to practice more. I am still fairly new to swimming, but being in the OW is definitely fun. Need to work on sighting -I tried to get into the main group once or twice, but couldn't get myself over there. Transition 1
Comments: Poor transition here. There is a long run from the swim exit to red transition (1/4 perhaps?), plus I had to stop off at the bathroom, no other way to say it. Got my wetsuit off quickly and into bike gear quickly. What would you do differently?: the bathroom break killed me there. Bike
Comments: Definitely the best part of my race. I went all out on the way out of the city, but paid for it on the way back in. The course was hilly, but on the way back there was a strong head wind as well. I did a good job of staying in the saddle for the hills, but need to work on staying out of the big gear and trying to muscle over the hills during the 2nd half). What would you do differently?: Spin up hills more. Take some water. I only used one water bottle with Heed, so I had no water. I got a little tired of the taste towards the end. Overall I felt like it was a good effort for trying to save my legs for the run. Transition 2
Comments: Don't know what happened here. 1) I biked with no socks, but I don't run well without them. I tried for about 2 minutes to get socks on my feet, but failed miserably. This is the 2nd race where I have trouble getting socks on. 2) Transiaition was a mess, someone was racked in my spot, so it took a few seconds to get my stuff. Also, I couldn't find my Garmin, apparantley I never took it out of my bag. Next time, set up better. What would you do differently?: No more socks for runs (faster all ready); Set-up transition better. Run
Comments: I wasn't wearing my Garmin, so I had no idea what pace I was keeping. It is a little disappointing in that during my runs last week, I was considerably faster. I was knackered, but having never done a 10k after a swim + run, I just went for a comfortable pace. It was great to see my wife and daughter in the crowd though. What would you do differently?: Wear the Garmin, I definitely could have pushed this more. Post race
Warm down: Walked around some, light stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to contine to work on improving my fitness. Event comments: I loved this race. It was a lot of fun. It started an hour late due to the rain and some traffic accidents on the bike course that had to be cleared up, but I cannot blame the race organizers for that. I would definitely do this race again. Last updated: 2010-12-13 12:00 AM

Got to NYC with the family late Friday night and spent Saturday running between race activities and family activities. Did get in a 30 minute bike in CP and probably around 4 miles of walking. Went to bed around 9 and woke-up at 4 am for the bus to transition.
Not much of a warm-up. Got to transition about 4:45 and tried to set-up as much stuff as possible with the rain. Then went with everyone else to get ready for the swim start.
