Run
Comments: Good run for my first marathon. I planned to run 8:35 pace for the first hour and keep my HR in the 130s. Heart rate never settled in and averaged 155 for the first 8 miles, but my pace was also a little faster at 8:27. I still felt really good even though HR was a little high. I planned on picking up the pace after an hour and for miles 9-19 I averaged 8:08 with a HR of 163, then I ran out of gas. The last 7.2 miles I ended up with a pace of 9:38 and a HR of 162. Did some walking the last 7.2 at water stations and when I needed to. What would you do differently?: Go a lttle slower the first hour and maybe try to get in a little more nutrition earlier in the race. When the temp started warming up later in the race I really didn't want anything but water, but eventually I started to feel bloated. Post race
Warm down: Sat down for about 15 minutes, I couldn't have moved even though I wanted. My legs were done. I have never felt that exhausted in my life What limited your ability to perform faster: I think it the temps were cooler and the wind was less of a factor I could've finished a little stronger. Event comments: Great experience for my first marathon. My previous longest event was an olympic distance tri. I've made great improvements in my run through the winter. Looking back at all the runs, it feels really good to have put in the training and have a great experience on Race Day. Last updated: 2010-12-15 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:30, ate a couple of protein bars and got ready to go.
Not much, a little stretching, plenty of time to warm up during the race.
