Run
Comments: Walked with Brandy. Left my long-sleeve shirt with the nice water-stop man right after mile 1. We had fun, but we missed Laurie. What would you do differently?: Wear a sleeveless shirt. Transition 1
Comments: T 1 was so easy! Bike
Comments: I placed 3rd out of the 6 in my age group on my bike. I'll never be a runner, but I was pleased with my bike speed. I enjoyed the bike ride. A lady had a flat, I asked if she was okay. She said she needed a pump, so I doubled back, stopped, and gave her mine. I didn't stay to help, but got her some help when I saw race volunteers. What would you do differently?: Train all year long instead of at the last moment. Transition 2
Comments: Got off the bike okay. Getting into the transition area was the pitts. The food and drink table was in the area we had to go through and the ton of people that were finished were all in the way. It took a while to pass through the group. Then T 2 was awful. I got my helmet and shoes off okay. But my running shoes were giving me hell. I couldn't get them on fast enough and then couldn't get them tied with the tongue out. So I just tied it with the tongue half way down the shoe. Of course this would be where bear would take a picture-of my big butt. He said turn and all I could give him was my best 'school teacher' look that said "HUSH" and you're in trouble. "KMA" also crossed my mind. T 2 was definitely my grumpy time! What would you do differently?: Make sure what shoes I am wearing and practice wearing fast lace ups before the race. {Bring that rocker to sit on while I change shoes:)} Run
Comments: Brought a bottle of water and drank it during the first mile. Smiled at a runner who was looping around. It made her day to see a smiling face because she was at a grumpy time-guess she's not used to being slow. Talked to the water man, who said he'd return my shirt after the race. Passed a lady. I don't do that ofen. :) Finished with a huge smile with a cheering squad at the end. Thanks bear, Brandy, John, and Rugbykid's wife! What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Porty Potty and then I went get my shirt. Walked around, got food, bear reminded me about my pump, so I went in search of the lady who had it. I managed to finish eating while looking for it. I looked for the lady a long time after the race. I found my pump on the food table that was blocking T 2. When I finally located the lady she said whoever helped her fix the tire apparently put it there. Then, I visited with several people including Mr. Ed-he's 76 and an amazing triathlete. We've run- walked together in other races. His wife and family were there too. We watched the raffle and awards. I was very proud of Brandy and Bear. They did great. So did everyone else. WE FINISHED!!! Event comments: It was a great first race. I had a blast! Last updated: 2006-03-04 12:00 AM

Up early. Regular hit-the-floor-running routine with housework. When I am extremely nervous, I clean faster, so the house was clean before we left. Ate oatmeal, 1/2 cliff bar, and drank my coke and 1/2 bottle gatorade. Finished getting things together for the race.
Packet pick up, porta potty line often. Hung up bike and set out transition gear. Met several people including the BTers there. Walked around trying to decide which shoes I'd wear. I got a new pair about a month ago and I'm still not comfortable with them- I hate when they change models- So I decided to wear my old ones. They worked out well.
