Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45. Drank a yogurt smoothie, tested blood sugar, took insulin. Drank some water and diet coke. Bags were already packed and off I went!
Event warmup:

Some walking/stretching. Not too much.
Swim
  • 10m 54s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster, that's it.
Transition 1
  • 03m 7s
Comments:

I couldn't get past people walking out of transition. No one was running! I loved the calm/laid back atmosphere of this race, but come on!! Getting the wetsuit off was tricky. Could have shaved some time off if I didn't wear wetsuit. Probably won't wear one next year and see what difference it makes.
What would you do differently?:

No wetsuit. Wear cycling shoes next year!
Bike
  • 48m 12s
  • 10 miles
  • 12.45 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike is holding me back!! I know they say it's more about the engine, but my hybrid is SO heavy and I have hybrid wheels, too. (Just found that out at the race this morning, I thought I had road bike wheels.) Hope Santa is good to me this year and I see some significant improvements in my bike times next season! I really feel like I did the best I could do with what I had today, but 12mph is kind of pathetic!
What would you do differently?:

Ride a different bike, have cycling shoes, clip in.
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Hated the bike racks! Had to use an adaptor for my hybrid bike wheels and someone took it while I was riding! So I had a horrible time trying to re-rack my bike (the wheels wouldn't fit into the tiny slots, ugh!). Again, most people WALKED their bikes back into transition and were blocking anyone trying to run. So frustrating!
What would you do differently?:

New bike will fix the racking issue. Please Santa Please!!
Run
  • 30m 21s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt pretty good. Probably means I could have pushed a little bit harder. Beautiful, dry day for a run. I definitely think my 1/2 marathon training that I'm currently doing helped make the 3+ miles fly by!
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, walked a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

MY BIKE! And not pushing it as hard as I could have.

Event comments:

Good overall race. Lots of volunteers and support. All women, so totally different vibe than my last (and first) tri. Felt more user-friendly and newbie welcoming. Would def do this race again!
