Pre-race routine:

ate a go bar, drank some sports drink, watched my mates start their half iron, faffed a lot and went to the toilet loads of times.

breast stroked a bit as started to feel a bit panicky at a few points plus i couldn't see much. the swim back was all freestyle and i think a passed a few people :)

stupidly long transition from the swim tot he bike. walked half of it as felt knackered and then jogged the second bit as somebody i met before who was doign the same race told me to! felt pleased with the catual transition itself.
What would you do differently?:

be able to run all of it.

good bike. had been uncertain as to whether to take my bike computer and watch with me, but glad i did. it meant i kept a good cadence up on the hills/undulations and was pleased with the time. i was aiming for just under half an hour and managed that, despite my bike computing then adding an extra 30seconds on in transition after i left it ;)

also wasn't sure abotu taking my camelbak with me for such a short ride but was very pleased i did.

really, really enjoyed the bike bit, pushed hard when i had to and passed a few peeps on mtb's and got smoked by lots of guys in my race and all the others doing much faster, much lomger, much harder races - god those carbon bikes with disc wheels do make a bloody noise!

only got passed by two people - not bad :)

What would you do differently?:

go a bit faster a bit sooner towards the end. not get passed byt he girl who ran faster than me but had to walk a bit - that irked me!

Warm down:

tried to find flaming buttock's wife and daughter, and randomly chatted to others from my race. then found them, then wandered for a bit, then did some marshalling.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough run training - have had a sore itb. not doing all freestyle in the swim.

Event comments:

this was my first ever tri and i have had the best day ever. only being passed by two people on the run was a bonus...i had images of EVERYBODY going past me!

am signing up for the sprint at nantwich as soon as i can, which is organised by the same people.and will return next year to do the sprint.

also, seeing my mates do so well was a real bonus; and marshalling and encouraging peeps who were in hot, tough conditions was fantastic - loads thanked me after and that felt great.

a fab day :)
