Pre-race routine:

Not too much - it was an early start so i made some toast, coralled D out the door and met our friend H to drive over Oakville. I was't feeling so hot so i was debating my race strategy the whole way.
Event warmup:

I knew I was feeling off so i was planning on just getting through this. No warm up other than walking over to the corrals.

Comments:

I should not have run this. But then again, without it I might have wondered just how sick I was and felt wimpy.

H and D did great, both coming in sub 50 but before the start I knew I wasn't feeling that great - scratchy throat and a little lethargic. But, hey i am a crazy runner/triathlete - how bad could it be? So, I let D and H go ahead and stayed further back in the corrals and told myself just to run at a happy pace. It did feel tough but manageable for a long time. A nice woman from NJ struck up a conversation around the 8k mark. We were chatting and then my stomach rebelled. I barfed up my breakfast right at the 9k sigh. Quel horreur. Yick.

So, i walked about a half k to see if things would settle down and then i came to a bottle neck where they were stopping runners!! WTF! Anyway, so when they let us through again i ran it in to the end, much more slowly. Boy did I feel like garbage.
What would you do differently?:

I should not have lined up for this - it's not a bad time considering but nowhere near what I am capable of. :S
Post race
Warm down:

Some walking over to the food area to settle my stomach. Laid on the grass during the car raffle.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being sick.

Event comments:

Good race - they're working on making this a big race and they definitely have some route logistics to work out. The main one was where they actually stopped us on the route to let a bus and some cars through.

The other was water stations - the last two years this race was in April and it was cooler but today was quite sunny and they only had two water stations on the 10k. I was glad I brought my bottle.

But they have great swag and of course the after-race prizes are the best!
