Swim
Comments: This was my first OWS (ever), and I am disappointed in my race performance. The things that I thought would bother me didnt' -- water temp, wetsuit, being surrounded by other racers, etc. I simply did not race like I train. I never got into a rhythm with my breathing or my freestyle stroke, so I resorted to side stroke, breaststroke, and back stroke. What would you do differently?: I need some serious training time in the open water! Next race I'll also make sure to concentrate on one part of my stroke to keep my focus. Transition 1
Comments: T1 time is pretty bad...it was a fair distance from the water to the rack, and I only walked briskly to catch my breath after my poor swim. I think I made better time once I got to the rack. Wetsuit came off fairly easily...helmet and shoes went on quickly. What would you do differently?: There's plenty to improve upon...I will RUN from the water to the rack...and I'll probably go sockless next time. Every second counts, right?!? Bike
Comments: I love my new road bike!! My first tri was on my mountain bike (which I also love...just not for races!), so I appreciate my road bike even more! What would you do differently?: No real changes...just need to continue to strengthen my legs and improve my speed. Transition 2
Comments: Again, not impressed with my transition time. I did take time to put on my iPod...more precious seconds were ticking away! What would you do differently?: No iPod next time (not allowed in race)...and not worry about the tidiness of my area! Run
Comments: This was a PR for me! Training bricks definitely paid off. Super happy with my entire run. What would you do differently?: No changes...stoked with the run! :) Post race
Warm down: Post race pig out, as usual! My training partner had finished a few minutes before me, so it was nice seeing her at the finish waiting for me. We did manage to stretch a little bit between snacking on our bananas and animal crackers. Event comments: This was my second triathlon, and my first OWS. I think I picked the perfect race for this experience. Beautiful venue and picture perfect weather...couldn't ask for anything more! Last updated: 2010-12-31 12:00 AM

I started the morning with the standard race day breakfast of oatmeal and a banana. We were fortunate enough to camp with friends at the lake/race site, so no worries about getting in the sea of cars heading into the race site. It was a stress-free morning!
Racks were assigned, so finding my spot was easy...no rush to get set up...went over for body marking...stretched arms and legs...and then finally went down to the water for a light swim warm up. Was ready to get started!
