Swim
Comments: Swim replaced with an official 400m beach run, that was 400m beach followed by 400m on the path before hitting the timing mats, so I'm treating it as an 800m run. Decided to go in runners so I wouldn't have sandy feet to contend with in transition and I think it was the right decision. The sand was horribly churned up by the time I set off as our wave was the last one. Actually, by the time we started, the early & fast starters already had their 2nd team members running adding to the confusion. Took it steady on the sand as I didn't want to ping a hammy, again good choice, and trundled into T1.... What would you do differently?: Pray for no rain, as the swim is my best leg! Transition 1
Comments: Missed my bike initally as I always take the same orange towel with me to identify my bike, but there were 3 towels within 50m and I got confused! Plus with the new wheels on the bike, I forgot what I was looking for, for an instant! What would you do differently?: Maybe take a more uniquely coloured towel..... Bike
Comments: Wow, what a bike ride...... Had the new wheels on for the first race, and also wore my new aero-lid for the first time ever (Thanks Jeff!!!), and what a huge difference these made. My last sprint was a 30.4km/h average so to go up 4km/h on a windier, though shorter course was a result for me! And not sure if it was due to where I started, but I only got passed by 3 bikes, and must have passed hundreds...! So pleased! What would you do differently?: Nothing! Transition 2
Comments: Jumped off the bike, got into transition, runners back on, and off we go Run
Comments: An OK run - took it steady for the first 2k, then started to push it slightly on the way back, with an all-out effort for the last km, which turned out to only be 650m, so slightly disappointed there. What would you do differently?: Trust in my fitness and push harder, earlier. I get scared thinking if I push too soon, I'm going to blow up, and always end up wishing I'd gone harder, earlier. Next time! Post race
Warm down: Handed over to my team mate, then watched before getting caught in the nastiest, coldest shower while we were queuing up to get our bikes. Brr! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of any speed-work, as my goal this season is still Busso HIM. This was just a hit out with friends in the largest triathlon in the southern hemisphere (if not the world?) 5500 entrants made the bike compound look enormous! Event comments: Great volunteers, as ever at any of the local races, it couldn't be done without you. As a team, we finished 891st out of 1600ish and 13th out of 30 in the informal category, so not too bad overall. Not sure if I'll go through all this next year for 45 minutes of effort, but if someone else wants to organise it and ask me to join their team I'd consider it. An alternative is to do a raod trip to Adelaide and experience their BRW instead! Last updated: 2011-01-01 12:00 AM

Bikes were checked in on the Saturday, where we found out the swim was cancelled due to all the rain we'd had, and replaced with a 400m beach run.
Note: The times here are the official ones for 'swim' and run, with Garmin results for T1, bike & T2 (official results have them all together)
Up at 5am, had brekkie, and set off to meet up with the rest of the team at 6. Got everything sorted then headed down to the beach for the beach run start.
Missed being in the wetsuit for the obligatory 'warm-up' :P
