Swim
Comments: Swam a lot better than my last race. Did drift to the left a few times but was much better at getting myself back on track. Marking the swim as good because I swam consistently and better than before over a longer race distance than before. What would you do differently?: Sighting still needs to get a lot better. I slow my swimming down when I sight. Maybe getting some antifogger for the goggles will help some too. Stopped and pulled my goggles down twice to double check where I was at. Transition 1
Comments: Long run in transistion. My cap did not seem to want to come off, but because of how far away my bike was in the transition area, I was able to get it off. Stepped in another guys water bucket to get the sand off my feet. My feet were not dry enough though which made it a little harder to put my bike shoes on. Forgot to layout GU. Did drink more GU2O. What would you do differently?: Quickly dry my feet. Bike
Comments: Biked strongly, but the Curry hill did get me a little partly due to bad shifting on one lap. Top speed 32.8mph What would you do differently?: Ride more hills. Transition 2
Comments: Hard to rack my bike. There just wasn't enough rack space and with my aero bottle I can't rack with the bull horn. Run
Comments: Felt my sore calves (from cramping during swimming on Thursday) for the first mile. Ran just over 8 minute pace for the first 4 1/2 miles, then finished strong enought to get down under 8 minute pace for the run. What would you do differently?: More run training. The heel bruise that is now heeled caused me to miss run training and made the run feel a lot tougher. I think I can do that run at least 6 or 7 minutes faster when I am at my current best. Post race
Warm down: 4 Guinness and a breakfast burrito. Then later easy 6 mile ride back home in the heat. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of run training. Better sleep wouldn't hurt either. Event comments: Need more bike rack space. They marked it off for age groups and there was not nearly enough space for 30-34 men (the largest category). Fun racing with more people that I know. Drank GU2O and rode 6 easy miles to the race.
Swam a few strokes then went to the start area.
