Swim
Comments: Beautiful place to swim - the water was clear and perfect temp! But I can see how people might freak out especially when you get hit by a wave...I tried to kind of ride them but not sure if that worked or not. Big key was that I started swimming right away and swam right up to the ramp. One way to loose time on a swim is to stand up too soon. Not a big fan of the long run through the sand to get to the timing mat...I think I was out of the water in a little over 30 min but then had to run to the swim in. What would you do differently?: I am not sure...this was my longest OWS, only my 2nd time wearing a wetsuit, and my fastest. Looking ahead to a potential ironman swim I would want to spend more time doing longer OWS on my own. I think I had a good pace and mainly used my upper body but I probably could have picked it up a bit and still been ok Transition 1
Comments: Ran right past the wetsuit strippers..probably a good thing cause all those people who stopped ended up with sand on their butt :)..I got my suit off pretty fast but made sure to take my time and get my stuff set for the ride cause it would be a long one. What would you do differently?: Not try to put on my gloves at the same time that I am trying to mount...I ended up in the way wrong gear for a very steep hill out of T1 Bike
Comments: For a girl who could barely be at the 50% mark on the bike last year for sprints! to go to 16th/123 is pretty damn good. I was loving this ride (well at least until about mile 45) I did have to stop 3 times. 2x because I lost stuff off my bike due to the bumpy roads and 1x at the last aid station so I could fill my aero bottle with much needed COLD water. That last stop paid off because I went in at a very lethargic pace but left and finnished the ride off in the 20's What would you do differently?: I would have put duct tape on my draft box so the damn thing didn't keep opening up and spilling stuff....also I am still working on my bike handling skills and while I am getting a ton better at actual ride skills, drinking water, handling food, etc still needs some work. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty easy T2 for me. Had all my stuff laid out - took a little extra time because I hydrated so well on the bike part that I had to use the bathroom :) What would you do differently?: Waited until after tranistion to use the bathroom so T2 would be shorter...after all the run sucked anyways! Run
Comments: This is where it just all fell apart. I knew I was going to have a slower than normal run...I was hoping maybe 8 or 8:30's but not this :( I just had zero motivation to run. I told myslef it was ok to walk a little and with aid stations each mile I figured I would run and then walk through the aid stations. Well once I let myself walk it was just so much easier and more comfy to walk. I ran some then walked some...etc... I was hot and my legs were tired and I could keep whining but I won't ;) Also at mile 10 my calf started to cramp..that was tough to run through The funny thing is that I was Ok with it...any other race if I had walked like I did here I would have been crying..instead I just wanted to finish and I NEVER once thought about quitting. What would you do differently?: I wish I could have run most of it and yes I am upset with this pathetic performance...but with the heat it just didn't seem that it was worth the risk of either getting hurt or dehydrating. Post race
Warm down: To the med tent..of course ;) seems like I end uo there a lot! Actually this time it was just to get some ice for my calf and while I was tehre I decided to get some for my head too. What limited your ability to perform faster: HEAT!!!!! Event comments: Stellar job by the event staff and volunteers on keeping us cool. Every aid station had ice...only one aid station ran out towards the end. I would recommend starting it earlier though since it can be very hot in July..obviously :) While I didn't have the best run I had an incredible swim and bike portion and for my first HIM I am very happy with just having finished ...not to mention the brutal conditions. I am definitly ready to do another HIM and IMWI 2012 is looking pretty appealing :) Last updated: 2011-01-01 12:00 AM

Decide not to stay in Racine the night before so I got up about 4:15 and drove to Racine. Parked right next to transition in a lot that no one else seemed to think of parking in :) That really paid off when I was done! Timed my pre-race so I was taking in about 100 cal/hr until race time
Squirmed into the wetsuit ...only the 2nd time I have worn a wetsuit at a race...and got in the very nice water. At this time it was probably about 80...by the end of the race it was 102!
I was in one of the last couple of waves so I had to wait unitl 8:16 to start.
