Swim
Comments: We ran in, kept running, then finally dove in...water was colder than I expected it would be, and it totally sapped my breath..bit of a minor freak out at this point. Took me about a minute to calm down and get into a groove. I did, and it was pretty good after that. I stayed pretty far away from the pack, and just made my way from bouy to bouy, cutting the corners tight. When we hit the beach at the end, I started sprinting towards the transition area...until I realized how far away it was...then settled into a nice jog...so my swim time includes several minutes of this jog. What would you do differently?: stop freaking out at the beginning of swim-starts. Transition 1
Comments: this was my second ever swim with the wetsuit, and the first time I'd ever tried to strip it off quick...I think it went OK. The thing that really slows me down in T1 is socks...I love em, can't live without em. Bike
Comments: felt really slow at the beginning...laying off biking for a couple of weeks really hindered the performance here, I think. Roads were a little rough, but not terrible. What would you do differently?: not get injured and have to take time off of biking Transition 2
Comments: I think I can go faster What would you do differently?: go faster Run
Comments: clearly the run is not my strong suit. I felt pretty good though, and my pace was steady. Beautiful course by the way, hugs the lake, and goes through the zoo...really nice. What would you do differently?: go faster Post race
Warm down: drank some water, ate some food, tried to double back and cheer on Ray (stargazer) as he came in, but must have just missed him. Caught up with him after though, and we hung around waiting to see if we'd get awards...we did (Ray got 2nd, I got 3rd.) Event comments: I really liked this race...as a sprint, it really benefits from having a well run HIM the next day. I'm guessing next year it's going to be a lot more crowded, so I guess my goal will be to still place with more competition. I'm looking forward to it. Last updated: 2006-03-08 12:00 AM

Up super early in Chicago, bowl of cereal, coffee to go. Drove up to Racine. got set up at my transition area, met Ray (Stargazer), peed twice (you would have thought that would be enough).
took a quick 10 min ride, and that's about it.
