Run
Comments: I felt like I did about as well as I could given my fitness level at present. Had a solid plan. Kept my HR where I wanted. Didn't walk except at the last two stations. Was slow, but fine. Pretty proud of effort, actually. Leaving that aside, I really ENJOYED this one. I had no time goals. No real pressure. I was just taking it in. I love the energy of these events. I think that's part of why I'm so hooked on this stuff. It was so beautiful. I spent way more time than normal looking at the ocean, reading peoples handmade signs, and laughing along with the spectators. I also brought a Nano for the first time, and my music (Pink, mainly) helped a lot. What would you do differently?: Really, nothing. I'll be way more fit next time though! Post race
Warm down: The family came to watch, and I loved seeing them near the finish. Just made my way back to join them and snapped some pictures. Then scooped up a couple of the kids and drove home. What limited your ability to perform faster: I wish I would have brought a couple gels. I started to feel hungry around mile 6ish, and actually a bit before. I had thought I'd read on the event website that there would be gels available at miles 4 and 9. They either weren't, or had run out by the time I got there. That hurt me a bit on the way back. Event comments: Good event, beautiful location, well organized, easy parking. Only quibble is re the gels. Last updated: 2011-01-02 12:00 AM

This was my third half mary, including the run leg at Vineman last year, but I had trained by far the least of any of them. Basically 3 1/2 weeks of semi structured jogging after a too-long break from training (moved, new job, etc.).
Got to the event early. Family was coming later, so was free to mill around. Had a bowl of cereal banana at home, stopped at Starbucks, had a granola bar and then a gel just before the start.
No real warm up. Not in good enough shape to waste energy on more than stretching and getting loose. It was pretty chilly to start, so just kept moving.
