Pre-race routine:

this was part 1 of the goofy's challenge (half marathon on sat. and full marathon on sun.). k and i decided to run together and just have a good time for the half. the goal was to finish happy and limit any damage to our legs for the full marathon the next day. we stayed at the all-star music resort on disney property. woke up, got dressed and ate a pb jelly sandwich on the way to the buses. we made it to the race staging area as they requested really early. too early. race started at 6:10 and we were there and ready to go ~4:00am. we basically sat on the pavement for a few hours. then it was time to head to the start line, so we hit the restroom one last time and i ate a tiny clif bar and a gu.
Event warmup:

walking ~1 mile to the start with 10,000+ other people.

Comments:

we had a lot of fun on the run. right from the beginnning it was packed and there was plenty to look at. we didn't care about time/pace, so the overcrowding was a welcome distraction for the first few miles.

there were several sections of road that got a little boring, but generally there were plenty of water stations and entertainment set up along the way. they had dj's playing music and characters all over the course. we were more excited about the landmarks than the characters. we stopped and took our picture at the castle and some other spots. i even took a picture of k trying to pull the sword out of the stone during the race.

the pace was comfortable, but i was careful to stay hydrated and continue to eat and stretch along the course to stay as fresh as possible for the marathon.

What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

finished up and got our medal. k and i got our picture taken and then got to meet some other bt'ers. we saw fitphd, trixie, trigods. they were really cool and it was great to meet them.
stretched and headed to the room for a shower. then we spent the day at magic kingdom walking around and riding rides.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

worried about toll it would take on the marathon.

Event comments:

this is a very well run race. i would prefer to have more food stops along the way, but the course is great and the characters and entertainment along the course are nice.
it sucks to get up that early, but you really could arrive a lot later than we did and be fine if you had your act together (don't need to drop off bag, etc.) it's noce to be done so early and have the whole day left. it's also good to beat the heat. even though it has been too cold in the past, it was hot this year and running at noon would be no good.
anyone who likes disney should plan to run it some day.
