Pre-race routine:

Got up had my blueberry muffin, gathered my stuff and headed to the race about 5:00AM. Set up my transition area slowly. It was raining so just put my bike out to get my spot and then waited to set everything else up.

Talked with the other BTr's at the race.
Event warmup:

Ran a little bit with Josh, then just before the start did some light swimming. It was warmer in the water than on the beach.
Swim
  • 11m 19s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt good on the swim, but never really felt like I was in a groove.
What would you do differently?:

Focus on stroke and finding my rythm. Just never happened. Overall, I felt pretty good and finished within my goal time. The run to transition was a little painful on my feet. I think I hurt my feet by walking around so much prior to the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

My transition was slow. I wanted to make sure I took care of everything rather than rushing. Unfortunately I forgot my sunglasses in the Transition area so I rode without them. Not good when riding in the rain.
What would you do differently?:

Put my sun glasses in a spot where I don't forget them.
Bike
  • 47m 32s
  • 14.3 miles
  • 18.05 mile/hr
Comments:

I really didn't want to do this course. I just haven't been on my bike enough recently with the new baby and it showed.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure to have my sun glasses. You lose a suprising amount of energy squinting for 14 miles. Also they added 2 miles to this course and failed to tell anyone until the end. Not good on such a hilly course.
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

This transition was pretty good. I had a good spot near the bike entrance.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I felt I got in and out of T2 quickly.
Run
  • 27m 34s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Again like the bike, I haven't been running enough this year, and it showed. I was running in the 25's earlier this year, but since May haven't put in enough work.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. But overall I felt good. The first 1/4 mile, my butt hurt like never before. Kind of a hami/glut thing going on. I might have pushed to hard on the hills for the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and cheered Josh on through the finish. Talked to some of the BTr's then packed up and went home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training and the weather.

Event comments:

This was supposed to be a race for fun. The weather kind of dampened that. I also made way too many mistakes. I forgot a jacket, extra shoes, my sun glasses on the ride. I haven't trained much because of the Baby (I'm o.k. with this one.). Also the Rain made for a miserable day, though the run was good.

I did learn not to prod Ryan into running harder. I saw him about 1/2 a mile behind me after the turn around and told him to catch me. BIG mistake. Right as they were calling out my name at the finish, the Orange blur zipped by.

Overall, it was fun and it was good to see all the Btr's especially those doing this as their first real tri. Welcome to the Club. I wish I had trained better and had performed better, but like I said above this was for fun, so I can't be to hard on myself. We'll see how the Fall Frenzy goes. :)

Performance: Good
Swim was only 500 and did pretty well. Exited the water in 10:00. The start was an individual start with each racer going off every 4-5 seconds. I really liked this method of start and they got through everyone very quickly. The water wasn't smooth with the rain, but the waves weren't bad.
Suit: Full
Course: This was a triangular course with the shortest section coming back to shore. It was well marked.

Course: This was an out an back course. Extremely hilly. There really isn't anything good about this course. Add in that we were wet and cold and it was not the best time. I really tried to work on the hills, and may have over done things. My speed was o.k. but I've done better. Perhaps only working out about 10 times in the last month was not so good, but with the new baby, I can't complain.
